An Australian woman who planned to house-sit in Canada during a holiday has said she was detained, fingerprinted, interrogated about her abortion history and quickly deported during a stopover in the US.

Gourley was told she would not be granted entry to the US and would be deported on the next flight back to Brisbane, five hours after arriving, because she had breached the conditions of the visa waiver program, which applies to citizens of Australia and many other countries making short visits to the US for business or tourism, but not regular employment.

The Aussie entered the USA in Los Angeles, California.

I didn't really understand why they asked her that, and neither did she -- there was a technical problem with her the conditions under which her visa was issued, since it didn't allow her to travel through the US to Canada (her intended destination) to take up employment of any sort, and housesitting for someone in Montreal apparently counts as employment.

That's bad enough, but what's abortion got to do with it?

At one point a US border official asked Gourley, who was wearing a loose-fitting dress, whether she was pregnant. The same question was repeated as she was moved between rooms. When she again told the US officials she was not pregnant, Gourley was asked whether she had had an abortion.

“She was walking me from one room to the next, and she asked the pregnancy question again,” Gourley told Guardian Australia. “I don’t know if she had forgotten, or she wanted to work out if I was lying or something. “I said no, and she looked at me again and said, ‘Have you recently had an abortion?’

“I don’t know the thought process behind that … I just thought, ‘What’s the relevance of that to my situation?’”

I really got into it with a supposed Air Force vet on Twitter over that subject, when he accused me of "thinking with my emotions instead of logic", being irrational, and believing everything I see and hear on the media, and said that he knows the whole rape story was a hoax because the Ohio AG said so on Fox News. Today he posted that he "stands corrected, it apparently did happen", without so much as an apology.

'I want men to take their part': 27-year-old Montrealer on why he got a vasectomy

When Olivier Charbonneau decided to have a vasectomy at age 27, it wasn't something he shared with a lot of people in his life.

With the changes to abortion rights in the U.S., "I noticed that a lot of women were talking about it, but men were not talking about their responsibilities," he said.

"I want men to take their part in the birth control process."

In his view, vasectomies are a cakewalk when compared to the hormonal birth control pills taken by many women, which come with a long list of potential side effects.

He said it's an option more people should consider -- even those who are on the younger side.

Charbonneau is in his late twenties, with no children of his own. While his decision to get the snip raised some eyebrows, with critics claiming he'll regret his choice, he stands by it.

Though what amuses me is that 'Scolding Centrists' are being blamed by progressives, while 'progressives' are being blamed by centrists for saying the same thing.

As if the practical people all warned the purists how important it was to vote, and since the practical people go across the gamut of center to left, they aren't really sure who the purists are.

Also, a -lot- of men seemed to have an issue with voting for a woman, and were [in my experience] the main ones going 'You're being hysterical' which just that word makes that clearly misogynistic attitudes.

Considering that there was already a criminally high maternal death rate from pregnancy before this, in this century, in the US...

I think that men should actually be made to read maternal nursing books and then take a test. If they don't pass a test showing they know what they are dealing with, then they don't get to even say something - and if they still persist, then they show just how evil they are.

No one should ever be forced to have their organs beaten up by a unwanted passenger. And considering that as a wanted and planned on child, I had to deal with a ton of emotional abuse and corporal punishment [even though I know why after the fact], no child should be forced to be born where they aren't wanted.*

Honestly, I wish we'd work on coming up with a method to incubate infants outside of a mom, like in the mice fetus test; one, it'd be safer for -rH factor people who become pregnant; and two, if I understood that study, it'd grant more nourishment to the fetus, since then 'mom' isn't having to hold back what she needs to live. And the people who'd want to have a baby the old fashioned way, could, while people who just wanted a baby could have it in a safer way. And well,

*My mom was an only child, my gramma never wanted kids, and most of the emotional abuse was a combination of my mom channeling hers, and the fact my dad would -not- punish us at all, because of how he grew up, so my mom's resentment there too.
