I dunno, what's DUP with you?What's DUP?
The best part about this ruling is it's a lot more ammunition against people who try to claim the American left is just as bad as our right... we as a country are and remain WAY to the right of most other Western countries... I was just explaining to a foreign friend how we can demonstrate that the far right is much more extreme and powerful in terms of real actions. The far left can mostly just be mean on twitter...Thread
That was my point - if it were a catholic issue, than it would not be legal. Its a control issue, and a privacy issue, as well as a result of manipulative assholes.Actually abortion is legal in Ireland since 2018. The case of Savita Halappanavar changed that: she was a 31 year old wife, giving birth. She was having a miscarriage, but doctors were not allowed to do an abortion back then as long as the baby has a heartbeat. She died giving birth.
So yes, it's legal there since some time, which happened due to tragic events. But it shows one important difference between Ireland and the USA: the Irish politicians were able to learn from their mistakes. The US politicians are not.
Also: abortion is now illegal in Arkansas, Kentucky or Louisiana. Even if the woman was raped. Fuck yeah, god's own country, exceptional and defender of Western values!![]()
Pay attention to PM Johnson; he knows whereof he speaks.Thread
If it's an ectopic pregnancy, the foetus has attached not to the lining of the womb but to the lining of one of the fallopian tubes, and is going to die anyway. The question is whether or not it grows large enough to rupture the fallopian tube, thus taking the mother with it.Welp, my mom refuses to accept that a woman's life matters more than a fetus or embryo even when there is a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy.
Exactly, and my mom fucking knows that. Maybe my husband talking to her will get through - its not about her faith, its about deciding that if women have to die to protect her rights to inflict her faith on others, to makes her have gone straight from pro-life to pro-death.If it's an ectopic pregnancy, the foetus has attached not to the lining of the womb but to the lining of one of the fallopian tubes, and is going to die anyway. So, I was today years old when I learned that for my this is also personal; - my grandmother didn't want to be a mom, was a pretty crap mom, and my mom is convinced that if she could have, she'd have gotten an abortion. Still... at least she's not disowning me and I'm not going to disown her.Exactly, and my mom fucking knows that. And again, this is the woman who made me value the principles of the First Amendment. An amendment that has been shat on by this ruling.
ETA: And also miscarriages - like so to her those women still should die rather than proper care?
Or even, if this was about saving fetuses, then they wouldn't do everything in their power to make it harder.
We're not out of the woods yet, either :- What does the Roe v Wade Supreme Court ruling mean for British women?
After all, at home we have Jacob Rees-Mogg, a prominent Tory frontbencher, saying he completely opposes abortion and believes it to be “morally indefensible” – even after a woman has been raped.
Again, this wouldn’t be out of character for the Tory party – Jeremy Hunt said in 2019 that he believed the time limit for having an abortion should be halved, from 24 weeks to 12. Hunt, who served as health secretary between 2012 and 2018, said it was his view that abortions should only be allowed for women up to 12 weeks after conception. Bear this in mind when you read reports that Hunt, who finished second in the last Tory leadership election, is preparing a bid to oust Boris Johnson.
Yes we are out of the woods. One or two extremists will not change the general position in the UK. A few of the old religious creeps in the Lib-Dems, an occasional Conservative from the 18th century and some of the NO! people from NI, that's about it. The real danger will come from more organisation in the creepy Islamic gangs. They hate women with a passion and will do anything they can to drag any country back into their own dark ages. We're not out of the woods yet, either :- What does the Roe v Wade Supreme Court ruling mean for British women?
However, abortion is not the political wedge issue here that it is in the US, and neither is right-wing evangelical Christianity the organised political force here than it is there. We're not out of the woods yet, either :- What does the Roe v Wade Supreme Court ruling mean for British women?
