That's exactly what I thought as well. Also, I don't blame his family for "lawyering up" right away. Why shouldn't they? I honestly don't believe that if he hadn't done it, that it would have mattered to the prosecutors or police at all. They just want an arrest and conviction, and it's been proven over and over again that they don't care if the person they arrest and prosecute is guilty or not. If I had to have anything to do with the police I'd "lawyer up" in a NY minute.
Absolutely! At a time like this, people need sound legal advice, particularly if they didn't do it, and from what all the US criminal defence lawyers I follow (several of them former federal prosecutors) have said about it, that would most particularly be the case in an investigation like this.
