President Donald Trump said Saturday that multiple people had been arrested in connection with alleged vandalism of the Reflecting Pool on the National Mall, including an Olympic canoeist, as the administration’s $14 million project to renovate the site has faced multiple setbacks.

In a pair of posts Saturday on Truth Social, Trump, without evidence, blamed vandals for the damage to the pool and said the alleged crimes could warrant “years in jail.”

“Who would do such a thing? These are very serious crimes having to do with the destruction of National Monuments,” Trump said in one post.

Former Olympian arrested for allegedly vandalizing DC reflecting pool

David Hearn, a former Olympic canoeist who competed in canoe slalom at the Summer Games in ’92, ’96, and ’00, was arrested on Friday, June 19, for allegedly vandalizing government property, according to PEOPLE and ESPN.

The 67-year-old reportedly told the media that he stopped by the reflecting pool during his 64-mile bike ride on Juneteenth to take a closer look at the recent renovations. While inspecting the pool, Hearn reportedly reached into the water to inspect the peeling paint.

Hearn said he only touched a piece still attached to the side of the pool and released it after a government worker ordered him to do so. Despite that, Hearn was detained by the National Guard and Park Police for five hours before his release.

Can you imagine how angry Republicans and media would be if a Democrat has been in charge of this recent war with Iran?

This recent disaster got me thinking a lot about what it even means to win or lose a war given that wars rarely really justify their cost. I think a lot of wars throughout history were stalemates or pyrrhic victories. The USA has certainly had some operations that didn't go as planned... but this this really stands out for being the first time the US basically surrendered to an enemy AND paid compensation. It's historic on a level Trump always promised he'd be, but in the opposite way.

Given the epic incompetence of His Profligate Flapulance, I'm sure his cabal of lawyers lies in wait crafting up ways to exploit the concequences to his advantage, including him only after the fact so that he can feel like a winner in the face of abject failure.

They might even be advising him into increasingly epic fuckuppery, in order to deliver truckloads of OTHER PEOPLE's money to the already rich and powerful, so that he can come back and say "You got richer off of what I did, as I intended. You owe me, and this is how you can pay me back."
