Was going to start a new thread on this, but...I don't care that much about the Murka Two-Fiddy "Great American State Fair" (shouldn't it be Great American States Fair?).

That was a lot of us, Free. But we weren't morons, it's just that too many of our fellow Americans are.
I don't agree 100% with that. The Dems were as fashionable during the last presidential campaigns more buzzy with dividing their party than standing as one person behind their candidate. Al that but Bernie.... was not good in hindsight IMHO. That gave the Rebs more chances than needed. The morons part is 100% true.

An interesting way of saying "Look at the shit we can get away with now!"

I mean... he's not wrong. He may as well just say "Yeah, we can and have gotten away with far worse crimes and the cowards in congress ain't gonna do shit!"

The issue is that republicans will stand behind their leader NO MATTER WHAT, while democrats are expected to be totally perfect. I don't know how the hell we wake our population out of this horrible double standard. I agree Bernie ended up hurting the party, but maybe not as much as 20 years of anti Hillary Propaganda.

Trump was an obviously incompetent, venal, corrupt, corrosive (etc. etc. etc.) candidate. The Democrats should have been able to run anyone at all against him. Any voter should have been able to listen to Trump for 5 minutes and realize he was the political equivalent of a three-card-monte con man.

The Democrats are far from perfect -- I routinely scream at them -- but they are more than adequate enough to run the government. They actually believe in government. That should have been enough.

Trump used to be a Democrat -- because that's the seat of power in New York -- but if he had continued to run as a Democrat he would have gotten nowhere. Democrats don't like him.

There's something fundamentally wrong with Republicans that they either really like Trump or that they are willing to turn the entire country over to him rather than vote for a Democrat.

I really do think it's an extended temper tantrum over Obama. Ten years later and they are still not over it - and honestly, they're never going to be, as long as they live. They whined about the rise of feminism and LGBTQ rights while it was happening during the 90's and early 2000's, but they endured it as a sad encroaching inevitability. But then a black man became president...and won a second term...and that was a bridge too far, it sent them completely over the falls. They decided at that point that the social contract had been cancelled and the American experiment was no longer worth salvaging, and now it does not matter how clownishy incompetent a buffoon is stood up, they will vote for that person until the day elections finally go away - which they'll also be completely fine with because even if it costs them their voice in governance it means there can never be another black person in charge, and as far as they're concerned that makes it worth the sacrifice.

I think all of that is true, but it still doesn't get to the heart of the difference.

As a general thought experiment, let's say that somehow Donald Trump ended up as the Democratic candidate for president. I would have voted for just about any halfway-palatable Republican candidate from Jeb Bush to Mitt Romney, even (god help me) Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio before voting for Donald Trump.

He is blatantly unsuitable for holding the presidency. That should be a bi-partisan realization. Again, there's fundamentally wrong with Republicans for not recognizing that some people -- no matter what party they belong to -- should never be president.

I'm suddenly engaged.

Police have arrested a MAGA supporter dressed as Uncle Sam for allegedly committing a lewd act at the president's Great American State Fair.

The embarrassing news was confirmed by police, who said that Gian Rachtelli was charged with “lewd, indecent, or obscene acts." Three separate witnesses told officers they saw the man performing what appeared to be a sexual act while watching female circus performers at the event. The offence took place during a Cirque Mechanics performance.
The 54-year-old was later identified as a Donald Trump-supporting livestreamer, also known as “Manny,” who happened to be broadcasting live from the event.

I'm sure the First Lady is delighted.
That one reply is right, poor girl looks like a hostage.

Also, "Thier colors kind of match" is a weird reason. Not "they match", they "kind of match".

White House unveils new images of US ‘patriot passports’ for America’s 250th

Since apparently you have to apply in person at the Washington DC passport office for one of these special passports, featuring the Apricot Amin scowling over the Resolute Desk, they'll serve as a good indication to Entry Clearance Officers outside the US -- particularly the EU and Canada, I suspect -- of who to give a hard time at Passport Control.

The ultimate irony is just how lacking in Christian morality and faith he presents.

In his mind, though, he seems not to be celebrating an anniversary of the US but the inauguration of the first Emperor of Trumpistan.
