After Ohio passed a constitutional amendment against the wishes of our legislature they tried to pass a law that would have barred the courts from determining what is a barrier to access and given that power to themselves. They have taken the position that the clear language in the state constitution does not remove all of the barriers that they have built up.

Sounds like how my state (Missouri) has refused to expand Medicaid a few times despite the ballot measures saying to do so.... it's bullshit.

A Tennessee woman who was denied an abortion despite a fatal abnormality says the state’s anti-abortion laws resulted in her losing an ovary, a fallopian tube and her hopes for a large family.

“The state of Tennessee took my fertility from me,” Breanna Cecil, 34, told The Independent. She added that state lawmakers “took away my opportunity to have a family like my own biological family because of these horrible laws that they put in place.”
Well done, "pro-lifers."

And more of the same from those "small government" Republicans, in Louisiana.

Louisiana bill would place abortion pills on same list as opiates
Louisiana is moving to criminalize possession of two medications used to induce abortion without a prescription, with punishments including prison time.

Why it matters: If approved, Louisiana would become the first state to categorize mifepristone and misoprostol as controlled dangerous substances, a class of drugs that includes medications that can be abused such as narcotics, steroids and depressants.
Gotta keep those abortion pills out of the hands of criminals and addicts!

Supreme Court unanimously strikes down legal challenge to abortion pill mifepristone

They ruled against the doctors on the issue of standing so they did not have to examine the basis for the lower court decision. Expect further attempts.

Meanwhile, the religious right kick things up a notch.

Southern Baptist Convention votes to oppose IVF
Thousands of Southern Baptists voted to oppose the use of in vitro fertilization (IVF) during a national convention Wednesday.
The resolution called on Southern Baptists “to reaffirm the unconditional value and right to life of every human being, including those in an embryonic stage, and to only utilize reproductive technologies consistent with that affirmation especially in the number of embryos generated in the IVF process.”
Not mentioned in the article is that the SBC narrowly rejected (they didn't get the required 2/3 supermajority) a constitutional ban on women pastors. So at least one small win for women...

Unfortunately, this isn't as it appears. The SBC rejected the Constitutional ban because they found it unnecessary given that they already have mechanisms in place to oust congregations with pro-women in ministry beliefs, which they just used against a congregation in Virginia that had a woman leading their women-and-childen's ministry. The SBC is not turning a new leaf.

The stupidity is that a woman *can* lead a ministry, be wholly in charge of assignments and budgets and scheduling and such; attend recitals and games and other activities; and act as a Pastor, reading scripture, praying, and lending advice during hospital and home visitations. She only can not be styled "Pastor." That's it. She cannot be called "Pastor" because that grants access to the super secret tree house boys club.

She can be called "Director" or "Leader" or "Minister" or a dozen other authoritative titles. She can attend all of the staff meetings and functions; represent the congregation outside the church; speak and pray and read scripture during services and business meetings. But calling her "Pastor" somehow, in their minds, translates to blasphemy worthy of disassociation. It is stupid. Stupid

The Supreme Court appears poised to allow emergency abortions in Idaho when a pregnant patient’s health is at serious risk, according to Bloomberg News, which said a copy of the opinion was briefly posted Wednesday on the court’s website.

The document suggests the court will conclude that it should not have gotten involved in the case so quickly and will reinstate a lower court order that had allowed hospitals in the state to perform emergency abortions to protect a pregnant patient’s health, Bloomberg said. It does not appear likely to fully resolve the issues at the heart of the case.

The Supreme Court acknowledged that a document was inadvertently posted Wednesday. That document was quickly removed.
