Not quite sure what to think about this. One the one hand, it's another bastion of conservativism; on the other, they've apparently been pretty critical of Trump (probably because he doesn't swing far enough right for them).

If I remember right, it leaned more towards facts and intelligent discussion and skewed away from red meat (correction: in the age of Trump, pork bellys).

Between the Internet, hate radio and Fox setting the agenda, and Kristol (who never struck me as having deep business acumen) it was probably inevitable.

I did enjoy a quote attributed to Putin in the middle of the article : The president expressed particular concern about drug abuse among young people. "Rap and other modern [forms of art] are rested upon three pillars - sex, drugs and protest," he said. "I am most worried about drugs. This is the way towards the degradation of a nation."

I gotta admit two out of three's not bad.

A whole lot of current and past WS editors and writers are on MSNBC regularly. They loathe Trump and his lackeys. Many have quit the R party because it is now the Trump Party.

THE WEEKLY STANDARD, a conservative magazine founded in 1995 by William Kristol and Fred Barnes with Rupert Murdoch’s money, has expired. Its final issue will be published on Monday.

Most famous for making the case for the catastrophic invasion of Iraq, the magazine was born just one year before Murdoch created Fox News. Both outlets were extremely effective at achieving the same goals via different tactics. Fox was chum for the rubes; the Weekly Standard was chum for Ivy League rubes. ...

Put another way, Fox was the conservative movement’s amygdala, while the Weekly Standard was its cerebrum, both driving it forward until Donald Trump’s election proved that the movement no longer needed any higher brain functions.

So, this happened in my neck of the woods early this morning:
Suspect in South Valley crime spree had prior criminal record | KFSN

Basically, someone started a one-man crime spree across Tulare County in California, which started with armed robberies and shootings in various towns a couple of days ago. He then fatally shot someone at a gas station, engaged in a shootout at his ex-girlfriend's house, then led police in a high-speed chase to a rural area, where his car died. He proceeded to carjack a farmer in the area, then continued the high-speed chase going the wrong way down a divided highway going in excess of 100 MPH, and ended in a spectacular, explosive wreck which killed him and injured several others, one critically. According to the news, he's had other run-ins with the law, even being deported four years ago.

Never a dull moment around here.
