My kitchen looks like it's been ransacked by a grizzly bear but I do have turkey and half of a pumpkin pie and half an apple pie left, so that's something.

I think the problem with veganism is that it's become more than a personal lifestyle choice; it's become a religion - perhaps even a cult. I've had run-ins with a few vegans before who have accused me of all sorts of nastiness for my choice to eat animal products, which has all but turned me off to the whole movement.

For my part, I don't eat much meat. I have a meat-based meal - usually chicken, sometimes beef, and occasionally pork or fish - about 2-3 times a week on average. I enjoy milk products, and I love eggs. For me, it's a personal choice I've made, and I don't wish to have to defend it from personal attacks, just as I would never attack anyone for their dietary or lifestyle choices.

If I were to give up meat, I'd just go lacto-ovo. I like cheese and yoghurt, plus it can get really odd finding things without eggs in (pasta, baked stuff).

Cheese substitutes taste horrid, but there's quite a number of meat substitutes (which admittedly aren't the same, but still tasty.)

I dunno if there's something missing in their diet, but Full Vegan(tm) tends to make people annoying.

Self made spelt bread. Spelt is quite different from wheat, and you've got to use some tricks to keep some moisture on the inside. If you don't use these, spelt bread has the tendency to be as dry as a desert.

I noticed they did not include India or China and I'm curious as to what food traditions they have during Chinese New Year.

Maybe because Chinese New Year is offset by a couple of months? And India has several of them (generally sometime in the spring or fall.)

As to what foods are "traditional" for either, I'll let someone less white answer.

I can honestly say I've never had Hoppin' John for New Year. But I'd sure kill for some tamales!

When my step Dad was alive I'd make black-eyed peas, collards and cornbread every Christmas as we rarely got to spend New Years together. His wife would make him pretty much the same thing on New Years too. Since I LOVE tamales, yeah, that would be my choice.
