Banana nut icecream from the US Navy in 1945, usually made on submarines. Max Miller finds it very tasty.

Went to the grocers this morning and decided to walk by the eggs, which is something I haven't really done the past four years or so. (Thanks, COVID! Thanks, TRUMP!) They were adozen large for 99 cents!

I'm boiling four eggs now. Going to have two for lunch, with the other two going in the fridge. I picked up some extra cheese to make a couple small omelettes on Tuesday or Wednesday, and I'm planning a potato frittata on Friday. Egg week!

McDonald's has finally got the memo that their food is even too shite for junk food, and wants to improve it.

So internally a program named NEXT has been launched in June 2026. There are four areas of focus, one is centered on improving chicken, beef and beverage quality at scale. It should include new sauces for chicken, improved McCrispy platform, a broader McCafe refresh an seasonal refreshers.

I wonder how this is going to turn out.

I’m eating some smoked oysters from a tin, along with crackers and a little lemon juice.

I remember when I was young, my mother would eat canned crab, shrimp, and smoked oysters. Consider them as small luxuries. Keep in mind, she also ate squeezable log cheese and drank tang.

Anyway, the tinned oysters make for a good late night feeling peckish snack

Smoked oysters were always one of those little delicacies that we'd put out on a charcuterie tray in the 80's. I love them. Also, I still drink Tang.

After visiting every Burger King restaurant across mainland France, the fan decided to ask the fast-food chain if his dedication deserved a reward.
Burger King France eventually replied and congratulated him for the achievement. However, the company also noticed that one part of French territory was missing from his map.

Instead of offering a straightforward prize, Burger King proposed a new challenge. The chain offered Swelez one free Whopper meal at every Burger King restaurant on Réunion Island, a French territory in the Indian Ocean.

[...] Burger King confirmed that flights and accommodation would not be included.
This is some deviously clever viral marketing on the part of Burger King (France).

This makes me think of how there has been a lot of exciting technologies developed recently to make food from things we don't normally view as food. This tech has the potential to be very useful and valuable! ....and also is a major political landmine. I remember how research into whether or not people would eat very cheap food made from bugs got twisted into THE LIBERALS WILL MAKE YOU EAT BUGS!!!! Some of the other tech along these lines maybe has similar risks.

It's sad because the ability to recycle anything into more usable stuff, including food, has so much obvious value.

Um. Yum...

Plastic bottles can be turned into edible, vanilla-flavour cookies (NewScientist via archive.today)
Plastic bottles and agricultural waste can be converted into consumable cookies via genetically engineered yeast. The team members behind the initiative are currently awaiting institutional approval so they can taste the product.

Plastic pollution and food scarcity are two of society’s thorniest problems. Sandhya Jayasekara and her colleagues from Southern Illinois University Carbondale hope to use the former to solve the latter – potentially eliminating both in the process.
Sounds like a winning idea. :poop:

“I think it has a pleasant, appealing aroma,” says Jayasekara. “And it will taste good, too. We’ve not tasted it, but it smells good – that’s for sure – like a real cookie.”
"We've not tasted it." :poop: :poop: :poop:

Somehow, I'd forgotten how irritating fruit flies can be. (Next time, the tossed banana parts will be tied up in a plastic baggie first!)

Yeah, there’s a fruit fly rave going on in my kitchen at the moment. I put out a vinegar and dish soap thingy, usually works well and quick, but they are taking their sweet time about diving in to their deaths.
Little fuckers

Yeah, same. I even added some putrid fruit bits into it. They just keep hanging out around my workspace!
