That reminds me, somewhere in my inventory I have a "friendship teddy bear" that does very rude things to the unwary recipient. Of course, some types might take this as a positive response...
I didn't look at the guy's profile, but he was new enough to be wearing one of the newer system avatars complete with outfit. So just shuuting down on him he might not have learned anything (I found out he didn't anyway, but hey, I tried).
Thinking of making a notecard for new users with a few tips in case there's a next time.

Newbies can be such a mixed bag, I've worked in a few clubs over the years and as long as they came in clothed without a penis flying in the wind we'd at least persevere with them for a bit.

And on the topic of the one word responses, I think the main consensus was that it puts all the effort on the person being greeted to carry the convo and that can be just the worst sometimes.

It's hard to push "hi" beyond "hello". And from experience these usually devolve into "want to the sex?" rather than a worthwhile conversation.

The downside of this is that it can often leave the socially akward in the lurch and makes them feel like assholes.

It is a culture thing,... I noticed Indians, Arabs and South Americans seem to consider A/S/L a polite way to start a conversation... in fact they even seem to consider it impolite to withhold A/S/L.

Every time I hear a story like this, I am again grateful that I work in clubs where hitting on the DJ is totally off the table. At both Club Noir and The Cellar, all I have to do is tell them "Knock it off". They fail to do so, I report it, the ban hammer gets lowered.

"Wild newbs" were a real problem on my old public text-based virtual world (which would have turned 30 years old next month if it hadn't gone offline two years ago).

But with a patient and tight-knit community we managed to 'socialize' maybe half of the ones that started off being assholes because "It's all a game and I'm not invested in this character so who cares!"

Those that continued being 'jerks for lulz' quickly found that people became really hard to find if they didn't wise up.

I am generally tolerant of noobs, but now and then I get a guy-noob who obviously wants the sexytime and friends waaaaay too quickly. The noob-dudes obviously don't read my profile, which should scare them away.
