Hot dogs usually come in packages of 10 in the US (elsewhere?)

Here it’s 12, unless they’re jumbo or something.

(Buns still in 8, though.)
I'm not sure what I'm doing, but I seem to be able to find hot dog buns, and hot dogs to match up. *goes to check*, yeah, the bag of Oscar Meyer Wieners had 8 of them, and the generic bag of hot dog buns also had 8 of them.

I remember seeing a segment on some TV show about this, where the guy demonstrated the phenomena of "excess weinerage", "excess bunerage" and the rarely seen situation where your hot dogs were "franquilized". It doesn't seem to have been saved anywhere on the Interwebs, but the terms do show up in searches.

What I just learned is that Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs, going all the way back to its creation at Coney Island, dressed up people like doctors and had them claim the hot dogs were good for you. American advertising at its weinerish.

I call them hot dogs, except when I'm talking about Oscar Meyer Wieners. Especially as I tend to get that version that's a mix of something like three different meats (I can't recall what all three are but beef is not one of them).

I think it's turkey, pork, and whatever creature falls into the vat as they're pulverizing the mixture.

Here you buy hot dogs, frankfurters or bockwurst.
Bockwursts are bigger.

I always call them hot dogs. "Wiener" sounds too juvenile, and "Frankfurter" sounds too formal.
Well to give you some background: Wien is the native German word for Vienna, capital of Austria. Wiener are just the people living in Wien. Frankfurt am Main is another town in Germany, famous for its airport amongst other things. Frankfurter are the people living in Frankfurt.

So the sausage, which is being called Wiener in almost all of German spoken countries, is being normally called Frankfurter in Wien and most of Austria.
