That would make every Trump-loving, anti-immigrant Texan's head explode!

I love it!
For an extra twist make them vote for it: "Should inhabitants of a revolutionary Meso-American state and their descendants be allowed to take refuge in the US of A or should their right to join us be retrospectively revoked?"

That whole "turn them in and you get money" thing really messes with my head, because a future in which being Christian has been repressively outlawed with the very specific detail that citizens would be monetarily rewarded by the government for outing their secretly-Christian neighbors and family members, has long been a part of American fundamentalist Christianity's persecution fantasy. Even that Chick guy wrote one of his silly comics based on exactly that plot point.

I'm going to go buy stock in Miriam-Webster before that gets printed up and sent off. That's if there's still any bookstores in Texas.

Just the use of "Meso-American" would cause the lizard part of their brains (the biggest part!) to vote against it.

A tiny victory:

I think it's rather more than tiny, isn't it?

I mean, as I understand it, Judge Gamble's ruling delays the law's introduction for a week, until she's heard arguments on Monday September 13, at which point she'll doubtless be persuaded to extend the injunction for as long as it takes for one side or the other to appeal her decision, and then it'll be extended again while one side or the other appeals the superior court's decision, and so on while the whole thing slowly makes its way back to the Supreme Court.

I could well be mistaken, though -- I really don't understand the US process.

A lot of people seem are comparing what’s happening in Texas to the Taliban or “sharia law”. It’s a lazy comparison that perpetuates deeply entrenched Islamophobia. There is nothing foreign about what’s happening in Texas: it is Christian American evangelical culture. Own it, for God’s sake.

That's a weird link... it is mostly about Holmes, but then at the bottom talks about a few different things. I agree with the part about how American culture isn't like the Taliban and has always been sexist.

I've also long cringed when I read about Holmes. I thought it was always really obvious that she was a fraud... and I always thought she was setting a terrible example for other women. I do appreciate how the article points out that men aren't blamed when other men are frauds. And men seem more likely to get away with being a known fraud for longer. Like Elon Musk!

Her defense is interesting... I'd not be surprised if her and her boyfriend were both in on it and now trying to blame each other... But I can still feel sorry for her if there is any evidence of what she says.
