So what happens if we require trans women to use male facilities in public places? Do you think they will be safe in a designated men's bathroom or shower if they are publicly presenting as female, penis or not (because attempts to legislate on this issue use sex at birth, regardless of the stage of transition)? The effect of bathroom regulation is to create a situation that excludes trans people from all public facilities, and by extension the ability to exist in public spaces, because they can't venture out of the home for longer than they can control their bladders.

I don’t think they’re thinking in terms of taking on the Army. I get the impression they think civilian bureaucrats are going to try to take their guns, or if they factor in the Army at all, they think the soldiers will take their side when they see “The Truth” (or something).
That is it exactly. The Patriot mythology says the true Americans in the US military will take the side of the militia and help them kill the bureaucrats who are "violating the Constitution" by trying to take away their guns.

And maybe some of them have a hankering to be martyrs. I wouldn’t be surprised, with some of the overblown imagery I see when I stumble across the social media of someone like that.
Btw. they have a huge chance to be martyrs if they get their way. Tyranny for Dummies says: "Once you secured your position and have established a functioning police state, get the leaders of your irregular militia defamed and murdered and demilitarize the rest - they rebelled once so they might just do so again. Maybe you can put them to some use in work camps. You will need some fortified broad streets to hold your victory parades on anyways... "

Just look at history to see how you usually be rewarded for being a revolutionary grunt.

I told some alt-right memelord, "You really think you're going to get that Koch Industries issue Breeding Female(tm)?"

And they'd never realize. Maybe when they got to the work camps, but even then they'd probably think it was so the "Deep State"/Soros (the Jewish billionaire they blame for everything, along with) the Clintons. They'd think their compatriots died by "Arkancide". They really are hopeless.
Perhaps someone could convince them to volunteer for the "Space Force".

It's maybe worth discussing the background to this in the UK, which I think is rather different from that in the US.

Here everyone -- in trans matters as in everything else -- enjoys the protections of the Human Rights Act and the European Convention on Human Rights, regardless of whether a Gender Reassignment Certificate (GRC) has been issued.

If a certificate has been issued, then that's an end to it -- the GRC has the same legal force as the birth certificate which it supersedes -- but even when there's no GRC, trans people still have a right to privacy about personal and medical matters -- so no outing them by misgendering on Twitter or anywhere else -- and still enjoy the same protections against harassment and public humiliation as does everyone else.

At the moment, reforms to the now very outdated Gender Recognition Act 2004 are under consideration, which a view to simplifying the system, making it a lot quicker, easier to use, and less medical, and relying more on self-certification.

However, and I think this is the point that tends to be missed, no revision of the GRA can supercede the HRA and the ECHR, so any new regime must, as a minimum, continue to afford both trans and cis women the same protections they enjoy at present, even though the protections will be somewhat more difficult to enforce for someone who does not yet have a GRC.

So I think that, however much some people may wish to import "bathroom wars" to the UK, it's not going to happen -- regardless of any changes that may be made to the GRA, the people responsible for public bathrooms (and for changing rooms, prisons and so on) will still have to ensure that the qualified rights of all the people using their facilities, cis or trans, are protected, with the supervision and support of the courts if necessary.

Man buys box of charity Christmas cards from one of Britain's largest supermarket chains and gives them to his 6-year-old daughter to write.

She discovers a note inside one of them -- described as a "message in a bottle" -- from an inmate in a Chinese prison, complaining that the authorities are using them as slave labour to produce the cards for a pittance, so they can buy necessities -- socks, toothpaste, and so forth -- and asking the finder to contact a former inmate, now back home in the UK, who now campaigns on behalf of Chinese prisoners.

Father takes this up with both the supermarket and the campaigner, and the supermarket pull the cards.

Since you bring this up, the US already spends 50% more on defense-related space activities than on NASA. Spy satellites don't come cheap, and they have their own network of secure communictions satellites for our worldwide forces. Even GPS is part of it. All that creating the Space Force does is put those things under a new office, rather than mostly under the Air Force where it used to be. It's not like we need grunts yet to fight the Belters or Martian Republic.

I know this, you know this, everyone knows except Rump, his cult, and people who stand to make money off it.
I do wish we could ship the whole kit and caboodle off to Mars, though. They could form a Martian Republic themselves. And in 50-100 years it world be extinct, because without Dems, POC, etc. to pick on they have to turn on each other.

Jesus, irony.

The former Amazon executive Joy Covey was killed after colliding with a van delivering Amazon packages, according to an explosive investigation into the company's logistics network by BuzzFeed News and ProPublica.

Covey was Amazon's first chief financial officer. She was riding her bike in San Francisco's South Bay suburbs in 2013 when a delivery van turned left into her path.

Covey's collision with a delivery van was previously reported, but the BuzzFeed News-ProPublica report revealed for the first time on Monday that the van was carrying Amazon packages.
