Soccer Man's Goal Celebration Takes Surprise Detour Into The Twilight Zone

What Kololli couldn’t possibly have fathomed, however, not yesterday nor in a million years, was what happened once he converted what proved to be the game-deciding penalty and jogged over to celebrate with the adoring fans. A simple hop over what appeared to be a completely unremarkable concrete barrier did not land him face-to-face with the fans in the stands, but instead caused him to vanish from this plane of existence into a strange and unknowable pocket of the universe referred to by those lucky enough to have survived it as, the Twilight Zone:

This is so weird because of the language used. The article says "complete panic" and so does this tweet, made by a passenger on the plane:

But if you watch that video you see like the exact opposite of panic. Like literally everyone is perfectly calm, there's a few quiet conversations at most (not even sure), and of course a number of people taking cell phone videos - there's no alarm, no crying or distressed voices. If this was after the "complete panic", the flight attendants did a masterful job of bringing the situation under control.

Local bankrupt computer sales outfit auctions unwiped customer database drives:

Privacy Fly | NCIX DATABREACH
That’s messed up.

Once Upon A Time * I did summer contract work for a company that installed laptops in about 1/4 of the school districts in the D/FW area. At one or two districts, they had the contract to dispose of all the old desktops that the laptops were replacing. The contract specified that the HDs were to be destroyed. But instead they had the contract employees do a fdisk on them and then they sold them used through a couple of used computer hardware places.

* At 2:30 in the afternoon

A Florida judge has ordered the release of (so far) 8 people from state prisons, and the state has dropped cases against (so far) 30 other individuals charged with methamphetamine possession, after the Jackson County deputy who arrested them all came under investigation by the state for misconduct.

The affair began on February 15 of this year when a woman named Teresa Odom was pulled over during a traffic stop. Deputy Zachary Wester searched her vehicle and found a spoon and a baggie of meth, and she was arrested. In March she pleaded no contest for possession and was sentenced to four years probation; but soon after that, her prosecutor and defense counsel jointly approached the state law enforcement department with concerns about the deputy's body cam video from that incident, in which Wester appears to have an object palmed in his left hand as he puts on his gloves pre-search that looks suspiciously similar to the little baggie of meth that he shortly thereafter "finds" in Odom's vehicle. You can watch the relevant excerpt of that body cam video here.

Teresa Odom's sentence was vacated by the judge. 263 further cases that involved Deputy Wester are now under review to see if they also may have been based on phony or planted evidence.

Florida again:
A man who stole $600 (£450) worth of cigarettes from a shop in Florida has been sentenced on to 20 years in state prison.

Robert Spellman took 10 cartons of cigarettes from a locked manager's office in a stock room three days after Christmas last year.

He was found with the cigarettes, shortly afterwards and matched the description of the suspect.

A jury found the 48-year-old guilty of burglary and grand theft over the incident, the Penascola News Journal reported.

Mr Spellman has 14 prior felony and 31 misdemeanour convictions, which qualified him as a habitual felony offender, meaning a judge in Florida's Escambia County could impose the harsh sentence

14 felonies and 31 misdemeanor convictions. You know, I really don't think rehabilitation is in the cards for him.
Probably not, but most places don't send you to prison for stuff they think you might do in the future. Give him a sentence at the top end of whatever the sentencing range is for that type of burglary, and then if he does it again when he's released, convict him again and send him back to prison.

ETA: I recall once being told by an American prosecutor that the original idea behind savage sentences for repeat offenders was that habitual criminals would, once they realised they were in danger of such draconian penalties for comparatively low-level crime, move to another state and thus become someone else's problem.

Unfortunately, this makes certain assumptions about the forethought, decision-making ability and rationality of people who, if they possessed such qualities, would not be habitual criminals in the first place.

Yep. I followed the link in the article to the graph of the last 8 years. They gave more to Republicans every year except for 2016.

Despite recent ‘progressive’ ads with Colin Kaepernick, Nike gives more money to Republicans than Democrats

Interestingly, in the article you posted, it looks like half of that is co-founder Phil Knight. This was interesting.

According to the report, nearly half of all donated funds from Nike employees has come from co-founder Phil Knight and his family.
The Knight family has also given $1.5 million to Republican Knute Buehler in his race for Oregon governor against incumbent democrat Kate Brown. The contribution is the largest individual donation to an Oregon candidate since the state started electronically tracking such dealings in 2006.
Nike World Headquarters are located Beaverton, Oregon.

A naked Alberta family who kidnapped their neighbors while chanting "Jehova" believed they had just survived the Great Tribulation and were trying to save themselves and rescue their neighbors from attacking demons, according to court documents.

Two women and one man, who cannot be identified due to a publication ban, each pleaded guilty in Leduc provincial court last week to a charge of unlawful confinement. One of the women also pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. Her two teenage daughters were involved in the case, but not charged.

The group, who are Jehovah's Witnesses, had gathered at a home near Leduc on Nov. 2. The mother, who was then 35, had taken her daughters there to visit her 27-year old nephew and his 30-year old wife.

But over the next three days, the court document says, they didn't leave the house and they barely ate. One of the teens recalls watching movies but also hearing screaming and banging and seeing ashes in the air. Some of the five hid in a bedroom or a bathroom.

"They did so because they believed that they were in danger, either from bad or wicked people outside or from demons," says the document. So they rushed off to find safety and save a neighbouring family.

"Four who were naked were changing but they had to leave right away because it was unsafe, so they left without clothes," the document says.

The mother, the only one dressed, drove them all in a BMW SUV but was in such a hurry she went through the garage door. When the vehicle headed to the neighbours' home, it apparently bent a metal gate.

The neighbours — a man, his adult daughter and her six-week-old son — were forced out of their house and into the snow without shoes, the document says. The woman and her baby were put in the back seat with the teen girls, who were naked under a blanket. The man was put in the trunk and ordered to chant "Jehovah" 10 times.

The group also chanted "Jehovah" as the SUV sped down roads and went through a red light on the way to nearby Nisku, says the document.

Because the trunk didn't latch shut, the man was able to climb out when the vehicle slowed. His daughter, after getting her hand slammed in the door of the SUV, was able to get out with her baby. A passing truck stopped to help the trio and they climbed inside.

The document says the SUV then rammed the truck from behind and the woman and her baby were thrown into the truck's dash, although they were not injured. The SUV then went into a ditch.

When Mounties arrived, the group continued to chant and refused to get out, at times clinging to the vehicle and each other. One of the teens believed the police "were monsters who would kill them," says the document.
