A Hendersonville musician on tour in Mississippi is being held on $1.5 million bond and faces more than 150 charges of child sexual abuse.

Hendersonville Police said April 13 that Philip W. Vaught was arrested April 10 after a lengthy investigation on charges of continuous sexual abuse of a child, especially aggravated sexual exploitation, statutory rape by an authority figure and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Assistant District Attorney Nathan Nichols confirmed news reports that Vaught was indicted on 160 counts by a Sumner County Grand Jury. He did not provide any additional details on the case.

Police did not say over what period of time the abuse took place or in what way Vaught was in a position of authority over the victim.

A Florida couple who accused a fertility clinic of implanting the woman with the wrong embryo has found the biological parents of their daughter, according to their lawyers.

Tiffany Score and Steven Mills filed a lawsuit in Orange County Circuit Court on Jan. 22 against IVF Life, Inc., located in the Orlando area under the Fertility Center of Orlando, and the lead reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Milton McNichol, after learning their daughter, Shea, was not genetically related to either of them.

According to the lawsuit, an embryo was implanted into Score in March 2025, and she gave birth to a “beautiful, healthy female child” in December, but when their daughter appeared to be “racially non-Caucasian,” they ordered genetic testing to see if the baby was theirs.

There's one good thing out of this.

“This ends one chapter in our heartbreaking journey, but it raises new issues that will have to be resolved,” the couple said in a statement issued through their lawyer. “Only one thing is as absolutely certain today as it was on the day our daughter was born — we will love and will be this child’s parents forever.”

Last Wednesday, Thank You Jesus Yard Sign founder Lucas Timothy Hunt pleaded guilty to a felony charge of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor in Randolph County, N.C.

Hunt agreed to enter a plea deal and is sentenced to 36 months of supervised probation. He is now required to register as a sex offender and provide a sample of his DNA to law enforcement.

Hunt was arrested in February 2025 on charges of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor after a brief investigation by the Invictus Task Force uncovered a pornographic video of two children in his possession after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Last year, an NBC News investigation found that leaders in the Assemblies of God, the world’s largest Pentecostal denomination, were warned again and again about Savala’s history but failed to cut off his access to students in Texas — even after a 2012 child sex abuse conviction in Alaska. Instead, he remained a revered spiritual figure among pastors in Chi Alpha, who called him “Papa Daniel” and “the holiest man alive” and sent scores of students to his Houston home for guidance.

Savala’s devotees included a pastor from Waco who brought his own sons, ages 11 and 12 at the time, to Savala’s home beginning in 2021. According to court records, the boys were instructed to undress in the sauna, where Savala sexually abused them while their father was present — the conduct at the center of the charges Savala pleaded guilty to Thursday. The criminal case against the boys’ father is pending.

40 People Drown in France Amid Scorching Temperatures

At least 40 people have drowned in France over the last five days as the country endured a scorching heat wave, Sébastien Lecornu, the country’s prime minister, said at an emergency cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Most of the drowning victims were young, many of them teenagers, and swimming in unsupervised areas. Mr. Lecornu called the drownings a “tragic scourge.”

Marina Ferrari, a minister whose responsibilities include young people, said in an interview on French radio on Tuesday that the drownings were mostly in bodies of water such as lakes or canals.

“During heat waves like this,” she said, “it’s no small matter to go swimming in areas that aren’t supervised.”

France is in the middle of an intense heat wave over much of Europe that began in the middle of last week. Forecasters have said that Paris could hit 40 degrees Celsius this week (104 degrees Fahrenheit), not far from its record. Parts of central France could see highs of 43 degrees Celsius (around 109 degrees Fahrenheit).

Yeah I'm totally lost. I don't know how you accidentally or even just "neglectfully" get a child so young to that state. Kids can become fridge-raiders and eat too much and become overweight the same way adults do it yeah, but I don't think that's what was happening here. At 255 pounds I don't think that child was feeding himself, or doing much of anything else for himself, because I don't think he could move.

Remains of over 100 dogs unearthed on the grounds of a "no-kill" animal rescue in California

And those were just the intact remains. Several more dog skulls and other bones were found as well.

Local media outlets report the probe was launched after a neighbour admitted to entering the property without permission in April and dug up what they believed were buried dogs.

The investigation led to findings that the rescue had brought in 900 animals since the start of 2025 and only had 116 adoptions, Sheriff William Honsal said. More than 700 animals were unaccounted for.

On Friday, the sheriff's office announced that the intact remains of 117 dogs were found in two excavated areas on the property, which is located in Fortuna, California - about 288 miles (463kms) north of San Francisco.

A search of the 50-acre (20,000m) facility also led investigators to an additional 21 dog skulls and hundreds of other bones. Six loose microchips were found in another dig location near where the remains were discovered, authorities said.

Seventy bodies were X-rayed and found with bullet fragments. Investigators said that initial examinations found that the cause of death for many of those animals was gunshot wounds.

The sheriff's office said that while digging in the northern area of the same field, investigators located additional dead dogs in advanced stages of decomposition.

The rescue shelter's owner has since released a statement insisting that they do not kill dogs except on very rare occasions and that the public should wait for "all of the facts" before drawing any conclusions - which, okay fine but honestly even just the 130 or so definitely dead dogs that have been found so far is a LOT for only two years, it's more than one out of every ten dogs they took in during that time. And there's hundreds of dogs they took in that are just missing, so IMO if there's exonerating facts out there waiting to be reported they must be pretty darn amazing facts.

I haven't read anything along the lines yet so I can't say for sure, but my uninformed personal bias leans toward that these were ultrareligious types - even more ultra than your usual ultras because they didn't even go the homeschool/parental-rights route, they appear to have hidden the existence of most of the kids from the world altogether. The neighbors weren't even aware they existed.

I have to say I had to snort at this line by the Ohio AG though:

“It’s the type of thing that we’re not used to seeing here in America,” he said.

The article itself already mentions the infamous Turpin case, but I also remember another equally disturbing case from the early 2000's, that also happened in Ohio.
