Justin Timberlake tells fans ‘it’s been a tough week’ after drunk-driving charge

Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor, New York, and later released on his own recognizance without having to post bail after a brief court hearing.

The New York Post reported that the same police officer stopped Timberlake twice on the night that the singer and actor was arrested. Timberlake was reportedly warned by the officer during the first stop not to continue his trip – and the officer reportedly thought Timberlake would get a ride home.

But, while patrolling in a different part of town minutes later, the officer spotted Timberlake driving his vehicle.

The officer, Michael Arkinson, a rookie who turns 24 years old later in June, has faced backlash over Timberlake’s arrest. Arkinson reportedly did not recognize Timberlake and in recent months has gained local notoriety for his purportedly strict enforcement of traffic laws.

The way this specific cop is being gone after is astounding. Police overreach is a thing, but arresting a drunk driver is NOT it. If there's any single thing at all that traffic cops should definitely always be doing, it's pulling over and nicking intoxicated drivers.

I am an avid reader of the r/TalesFromTheFrontDesk subreddit (can't explain why, but try it before you judge me), and one thing I've learned about hotel guests is that they blithely ignore any warnings that stand between them and something they want to do. Pool is closed, go swimming anyway. Jacuzzi shut for repairs? Rip off the duct tape from the On switch and go for a dip.

So yeah, "DO NOT ENTER THIS AREA" signs, who are they to stop me from my morning run.

Illinois State Police said authorities would not yet be providing bodycam video, citing “the integrity of the legal process and the right to a fair trial in the event charges are filed.”

It's funny how one-way this concern is. Like, the police don't hesitate even a moment to release bodycam video when the video implicates a suspect who did something wrong. But when an officer screws up, suddenly fair trials are super important.
