THIS pisses me off. Hypocrites. It makes me angry that WOMEN believe that THEY are the exception to the rules they want to impose on other women.

I agree... I've read a lot about this kind of mental gymnastics and it is sickening. Most people become very pragmatic when it's their own self interest no matter what silly "principles" they have for other people.

Seems there are those in the UK who want the same as the Repugs. Long article but well worth the read.

A Plan To Tax Women For Being 'Childless'? Welcome To Gilead (msn.com)

In an article published by the Sunday Times this weekend, demographer Dr Paul Morland puts forward some suggestions for “incentivising families to have more children and to have them when they are younger”.
“Introduce a ‘negative child benefit’ tax for those who do not have offspring,” he says. “This may seem unfair on those who can’t or won’t have children, but it recognises that we all rely on there being a next generation and that everyone should contribute to the cost of creating that generation.”
He then suggests the UK could “use the funds to fix the UK’s broken, expensive early-years care system”.
Lucky you, if you want to have children but can’t – you can simply pay for everyone else’s instead. Never mind the fact that you may want to save up for fertility treatment, which already costs upwards of £5,000 per cycle and is quietly being removed from NHS provision.

Not sure how much traction that idea is going to get. His various proposals for tax and benefits changes would, for different reasons, horrify both the Treasury and (for different reasons) large sections of both main political parties, as would his ideas about building on the green belt around London (the present government tried that, and had to back off very quickly).

When you have labour shortages, immigration is a considerably cheaper, faster, and more efficient, solution than is trying to encourage people to have larger families. Simple as that.

New York Times 'Ectopic Pregnancies' Op-Ed Is Everything You Never Hoped For
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg attaches itself somewhere other than the uterine wall, most often to the fallopian tube, and starts burrowing into tissue where it doesn't belong. Ectopic pregnancy is not uncommon, occurring in roughly two percent of pregnancies, and it will never lead to the birth of a baby. Left untreated, however, it can cause serious damage, rupturing fallopian tubes leading to hemorrhage, sepsis, and death.

Among doctors, there is no issue at all. But among forced birth fetishists, ectopic pregnancy is a "key issue" because they doggedly refuse to concede that this "potential life" has zero potentiality, and thus the only "moral" course is to remove it immediately
In this charged environment, the Times has seen fit to give Libresco Sargeant a platform to demand that we all treat these non-viable eggs like children so that she can engage in an elaborate fantasy that she gave birth, instead of having the "abortion" which was absolutely necessary to save her life and allow her to go on to have other children.

"From a pro-life perspective, delivering a baby who is ectopic is closer to delivering a baby very prematurely because the mother has life-threatening eclampsia," she intones somberly. "A baby delivered at 22 weeks may or may not survive. A baby delivered in the first trimester because of an ectopic pregnancy definitely won’t survive. But in both cases, a pro-life doctor sees herself as delivering a child, who is as much a patient as the mother."
Were I in Libresco Sargeant's shoes, the last goddamn thing on earth that I'd do is to make this argument when I knew that women with ectopic pregnancies were being denied the very care that I myself got, on my own terms, because doctors are terrified that there's a cop and a prosecutor waiting outside in the corridor to arrest them.

In a contortion worthy of Cirque du Soleil, the writer goes on to lament "a culture" in which "mother" and "baby" are "pitted against each other, which assumes a zero sum game." But the only one playing a "game" here is Libresco Sargeant, who pretends that a non-viable zygote is a "patient" for whom doctors can offer "care."

But but but SPERM + OVUM = HUMAN BABY THAT MUST BE BORN AT ANY COST.
Or, more accurately, 'Just how cruel can we get away with.'

Still waiting for the straight white males to find out what overturning sodomy laws entails. But then they probably figure that it won't affect them.

This is great and all, but... Couldn't they have had it ready on the desk with pen clipped to it the day SCOTUS pulled the pin? It's not like this whole shit show has been a surprise to anyone.
As someone noted in the thread, it does take time to go through, find out what legal options they have that will do what's needed, and make sure its as solid as possible. If the EO is as detailed as that document [probably even more so] then that would have taken more than a few days to write up.

This thread was started on May 2. The Dobbs decision was put out on June 24. Math = A lot more than a few days.
