I prefer using a knife to cut pizza, as well. It's because of the clean up. Washing a pizza cutter is a chore.

Actually the USA has 240V in every home, too, it's just not on every power outlet. But many ovens, air conditioners, car loaders and more are running with 240V.

It usually isn't in an outlet at all. I don't know of any plug for my central air or oven. I think the washer and/or dryer are the only 240 volt items that have a plug here in this house.

Yeah, major appliances run on it.

Nothing we regularly plug our electric kettles/toasters/etc into.

The only time I've seen actual outlets for residential 240 were for a dryer, an oddball stove, or if someone had their home retrofitted for a welder, everyother 240v item is hardwired.

Your central air is hard wired, but nearly all electric stove/ovens have a plug in the back, as does your dryer. Some window AC units also require a 240 outlet.

My stove certainly does not as I can see the junction box. I think the oven is unlikely to have a plug either as there is no visible wiring in the cabinets above or below. What would be the point of a plug if I would have to take the whole oven out of the wall to get to it?

It's more of a Euro thing because renters and buyers are expected to supply their own kitchen appliances and move them from residence to residence, just like you'd move a bed or a sofa. In America, rentals and homes are prefurnised with kitchen appliances, either by the landlord or the seller. I don't know the applicable laws or economics covering either case.

It's not just apartments. Any house or manufactured housing is built with 240 plugs for large appliances. Mainly ranges with ovens, hot water heaters and dryers. Some fridges, washers and dishwashers. Everything else like heating and cooling is hardwired. In the US.

I suspect it is the law here. I've lived in maybe 20 apartments in the US in my life. They all came with a refrigerator, oven and stove. Some came with a dishwasher and a microwave. Thank goodness. That sounds like a real pain having to move that stuff especially if the apartment isn't on the ground floor. Beds and sofas, sure, because that would probably be gross especially in cheap apartments. As for dishwashers, most places I lived did not have them so I did them by hand. No place had washers or dryers in the apartment. Usually they were in a shared space. A couple of places I had to go to the laundromat.

Maybe it's a Québec thing. Not europe, but we always have to be different.

Some have them included, some dont, but rarely are they built-in unless it's a custom made kitchen. You just plug them in, and when you change for a newer one, pull them out and exchange for another, easy-peasy.
