Sat in on a phone-town-hall type thing with my congressional rep tonight. Couple of guest speakers, they spoke about some of the -many- court cases against trump et al, took some questions.

One perky jackass's question was a very sincere sounding "Why aren't you backing Trump, don't you want to Make America Great Again?" -- wish I recorded the reply, it was pretty thorough, and yet still civil and polite.

They took two polls, there were around 400 people on the call. "Should Elon have access to our social security/banking information NO, YES, DUNNO. Was like 94% NO, 1% dunno." and "How concerned are you about how (that fucking guy's) tarriffs will impact you: VERY(89%) Somewhat/not at all(I forgot the #s)."

I kinda wanted to ask what the plans are for democratic leadership now that Schiff seems to be so ineffective, but I didn't feel expect anything but platitudes for it so didn't bother.

In Florida it looks like the 6th was exactly in line with the +14R lean, while the Republican in the 1st underperformed by about 4%. Both are hard R districts.

My uninformed opinion:

The judge really had no choice but to dismiss the charges one way or another since the DOJ was refusing to prosecute. Doing it this way IS at least a middle finger by the court to the Trumpistration, as it screws them out of their ability to use a re-prosecution as political leverage.

But...for the major himself vs the city I don't think it makes a difference. Adams is a Trump stooge with or without the prosecution hanging over him and with any luck that perception doesn't change among his constituents, since he so nakedly sold the whole city out to begin with. He needs to go. I just hope they don't replace him with Cuomo who I think will also largely be a Trump stooge.

That typically happens when I visit my parents and accidentally mix up the names used in different parts of Germany.

I get even more intense side-eyes when I order a "Berliner" in Berlin or a "Pfannkuchen" ("pancake") in Northern Germany. ("Berliner Pfannkuchen" is what we call jam-filled doughnuts in Germany).

I chose it because of a thing I learned from my brother who used silly German words as usernames in old school text games. He found German names would intimidate Americans, so I took a mix of Arabic and German for the same reason. And now I'm kind of stuck with it.
