I once called an army team to find out how to confirm that a Vietnam era air to surface missile (helicopter mounted, about 3 feet (1 meter (1 metre)) long) was inert. They had us evacuate the building and hauled ass about 2 hours to check it out for us.

Turned out the correct answer was that the word "INERT" was stenciled on the side facing the wall.

With the one in the article, they mentioned that there was a small amount of explosive. I have seen Civil War era cannonballs where the main charge is gone but the impact fuse is still in place. That would be lethal if you were standing nearby but not significantly damage a structure.

Natural gas needs to reach a certain concentration in the air before it will blow up. It's a pretty broad range too, unlike propane with a very slime range. Either way, if there's a leak in the house it will sink to the basement and build up concentration until it reaches the appropriate mix in the vicinity of a pilot light, say in a furnace, and your house is now toothpicks flying through the air.

In the UK, on the rare occasions we read about someone's house blowing up, it's generally because of a gas leak rather than because someone's been playing with explosives.

Senate approves hundreds of military promotions after Republican senator ends blockade of nominees

The Senate in a single stroke Tuesday approved about 425 military promotions after Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama ended a monthslong blockade of nominations over his opposition to a Pentagon abortion policy.

Tuberville had been under pressure from members of both sides of the political aisle to end his holds as senators complained about the toll it was taking on service members and their families, and on military readiness.

In the end, Tuberville accomplished nothing beyond hobbling our military for too long. He's still tying up some at the highest levels, but this is good news.

Mythbusters had done several episodes on explosive gases. They had a term for when the gas was within LEL and UEL - the range in which the ratio of gas and oxygen is just right for an explosion when provided an ignition source. I just can't remember what that term is.

The Guardian is reporting, that the nuclear waste recycling facility Sellafield in the UK has been hacked by groups linked to Russia and China since 2015. Sellafield is one of the most hazardous places in all of the UK.

The group used sleeper malware, and it is still unknown if all "gifts" have been erased from the computers there. It is highly likely that the hackers also gained access to the most confident material there.

The staff of Sellafield has covered up the events. Sellafield also houses the emergency planning documents of the government in case the UK should come under foreign attack or face disaster.
