This might sound weird coming from someone with a kid avatar, I know. But this is my generation being invoked here, and I really really hate stuff like this. The present-day reminiscence of childhood toys and simplicity, being framed as some kind of wise instinctual longing for allegedly bygone values that the libs have stolen from us.

And by the way, it's no accident that this vision of my generation's stolen golden age is a glittering cocoon built entirely of brands, media franchises, and consumer products, all of which are in fact still around and handily available for purchase.

That must have gone more viral than they were comfortable with. Your commentary and the replies tell a story tho.

Hi from the childhood of car ads involving robots, pro wrestling style military, and an unironically named “He-Man”. (Which really was the best of the bunch and has evolved well.)

Yesterday, I saw a sports car with the Chevy badge on it that reminded me very much of my son's Hot Wheels toy cars from the 70s and 80s. I asked my husband what it was. He said that it was the latest model of the Chevrolet Corvette. As I walked around it, the 80s Hot Wheels aesthetic was complete. Later, when I looked at it on line, even the Hot Wheels engine compartment aesthetic was there. Do our tastes in how new things should look get set when we're children by the toys we play with?

When I traveled to Zurich for a trade show about 30 years ago, I was struck by how the modern architecture looked like scaled-up versions of Lego buildings, the colors and the style.

I wonder.

ETA: I think British anti-abortion protestors can thank their US counterparts for this -- people have seen what happens in the US and, whatever their views on abortion or their concerns about the right to protest, do not want to see anything like that happening in the UK.

I wish I could see the tweet they're all talking about, as I am frequently having to deal with numbnuts who use the term "woke" pejoratively, but that person has their account locked.
