* they disregard decades of expensive and profoundly indepth military research and planning to run some fools errand dreampt up by clueless political hacks at some bogusly prestigious sounding rightwing'foundation'.

When the right barks "Support the Troops or your not a true patriot" all they really mean is "Support whatever nonsense we tell our troops to DO, so that we can keep defense spending ridiculously high, and use it to funnel prosperity through defense contractors to our constituents so that we can get re-elected! That's ALL that matters, so shut up and support the troops!"

So yeah, not wanting service member compensation to keep pace with cost of living increases is -exactly- in line with republican priorities.
