The recently they granted waivers to half a dozen large countries to still buy oil from Iran, so now there is a glut on the market. Prices are falling like a rock, from $76 per barrel at the start of October to $54 currently. Energy stocks are in the toilet, and the whole stock market has dropped about 10% as a result. If oil prices stay low, many people in the energy industry will be out of work. It doesn't pay to drill for oil when the drilling costs are higher than what you can sell it for.
