I’m off two minds about that (the idea of the media refusing to air his grievances). On the one hand, it would be a blessed relief if that were to happen; on the other hand, shouldn't people know that he's doing his best to incite another insurrection? He's dangerous, and people have to know it, so that if something is finally done about him people (except for the cult) will know there's a reason why, and from his own mouth.

Yeah, makes sense to see what he is up to, in the sense of trying to create another inurrection. Still, I wouldn't mind if every single one of the words that comes out of his mouth got buried in a big, deep hole. Couldn't the DOJ or FBI keep an eye on this danger to democracy?

Maybe? Instead of giving him oxygen, we see what effect his words are having upon his followers? It's not like they are quiet about it. Follow that, instead?

I believe he may well be truly in a state of dementia, so what he says doesn't make much sense, but he retains his hatred of the world. I mean, what you quoted of him is absolutely fucking insane. Unfortunately his followers treat it as a sermon.

Let's not discount that media still wants to capitalize on whatever nutty things he says, the crazier the better. Almighty money. That partially got us into this to begin with. Just deprive the crazy old man of oxygen. He thrives on it.

McCarthy and other Republicans have argued that any commission should also look at violence involving Antifa and riots that occurred during protests of police brutality last year. Democrats charge that Republicans are simply trying to obfuscate Trump's role lying about the election being stolen in the lead-up to January 6 attack.

They think BLM is trying to overthrow the government? And if "Antifa" (can't wait to see what they dredge up to prove that) was tying to overthrow anything. It would be a fascist thing...I guess they still don't know what it stands for.

From what I've read about the indictments being handed down, most commentators seem to agree that, while most of the wrongdoing alleged is comparatively minor, amounting to little more than than trespass and refusing to leave the building when given a lawful instruction so to do, and probably not likely to attract an immediate custodial sentence of any significance, a sizeable minority face far more serious charges, involving weapons, conspiracy and assault, and very significant prison time.

So the Republicans, I assume, are focussing on the plight of those rioters who are guilty of little more than attending the rally with no particularly sinister purpose in mind save for expressing their support for Trump and then got caught up in events, but didn't do much more than enter the Capitol illegally and mill around taking selfies when they got inside, while trying to divert attention from the rioters who organised and attended the rally with far more sinister purposes, intending to attack the Capitol Building and disrupt the certification process for their own malign ends.

Given what we know of some of the crackpots involved in Trump's inner circle by the end -- Giuliani, the My Pillow chap, and so on -- and their connections with the people who organised the rally, I'm not surprised that the Republicans are terrified of what might come out during an investigation, particularly if they can get Trump and some of his family in front of the committee.
