This is easily grounds for disbarment. Although it seems like their attorneys are trying to stay within ethics and legal guidelines while their publicists are spouting shit.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to undo sanctions against several lawyers allied with former President Trump for filing a meritless lawsuit challenging Michigan’s 2020 presidential election results.

Lawyers Sidney Powell, Lin Wood and others brought the lawsuit against Michigan state officials and Detroit in November 2020, one of dozens of suits filed in an attempt to prove election results were illegitimate in states where Trump had lost. The efforts failed across the board and no evidence of widespread fraud was uncovered.

On Monday, the nation’s conservative-majority high court upheld a ban preventing former New Mexico official Couy Griffin from running for office within the state again due to his specific criminal history: In 2022, Griffin was convicted on misdemeanor offenses for his role in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, ultimately costing him his job as county commissioner.

It’s the Supreme Court’s first decision on the Fourteenth Amendment since it axed a Colorado decision earlier this month to keep Trump off the state’s GOP presidential primary ballot, and the first time that the “insurrectionist clause” has been used to bar someone from office since it was created to keep ex-Confederates from reattaining high office following the Civil War. By allowing the Fourteenth Amendment to be used against Griffin, the Supreme Court seems to have, circuitously, deemed the January 6 riot an insurrection.
The rationale for the discrepancy between Trump’s and Griffin’s cases, however, likely boils down to state election specifics—whereas Colorado attempted to bend national electoral precedent by keeping Trump off the ballot, New Mexico’s case keeps Griffin out of New Mexico politics.
Whatever!

Sadly, without a conviction from the U.S. Senate, I'm certain the Supreme Court will block any attempt to keep TFG off the ballot, even if they've basically all but agreed that it was an insurrection attempt. :(
So this is Donnie's grand master scheme, then: delay and politicize, citing lack of actual conviction in 2 impeachments, then claim failure to impeach is also exoneration. Then claim immunity because "jail". Then delay delay delay so he can try to be President so he can pardon himself and every one of his crooked cronies plus all the actual insurrectionists from 1/6. Failing that, I'm afraid we're looking at an endless repeating loop from that side of the aisle spouting falsehood after falsehood that only fools about 1/4 of the population.

Sigh.

Yes, it's so frustrating and soul bruising. Unfathomable that all systems designed to curtail this nefarious conduct are failing or turning a purposeful blind eye. To the good and mentally intact people of the world, this is utterly nonsensical.

Honestly I think the only reason he's interested in running again is just to stay out of jail just long enough to live out his final years. I shudder to think what kind of lasting damage someone with that kind of vengeful attitude could have. Worse by far than tfgs first term!

Almost 5 years later.

The FBI has arrested a suspect in its investigation into pipe bombs planted near the Republican and Democratic national party headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 5, 2021, according to a federal law enforcement official familiar with the investigation.

Brian Cole was identified as the suspect in custody, according to two senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter. The arrest marks a breakthrough in a case that has stymied investigators for nearly five years.

An FBI official said the arrest happened Thursday morning. A news conference will take place at the Justice Department on Thursday to officially announce the arrest.
Still a lot of questions.

No, questions like:
  • How and why was the investigation stymied for so long?
  • What was the evidence that lead them to Cole?
  • Did they truly catch the right person?
  • Why did he do it?
  • Why doesn't a woodchuck chuck wood?

Accused DC pipe bomber told FBI he believed the 2020 election was stolen, sources say
During interviews with the FBI, the suspect arrested in the pipe bomb probe told investigators that he believed the 2020 election was stolen, providing perhaps the first indication of a possible motive for the bombs placed near the DNC and RNC headquarters, people briefed on the matter told CNN.

Brian Cole Jr. spent hours with FBI investigators and made multiple statements, the sources said. Dan Bongino, deputy FBI director, told Fox News on Thursday that the FBI had interviewed the suspect at length, but didn’t elaborate.
If this is the guy, he totally sounds like a member of a Joe Biden run anti-Trump plot. Or dare I say it, an antifa-terrorist.

So not only does it look like the D.C. pipe bomber is in custody, but it looks like the conservative "news" media company The Blaze is caught up on their own journalistic incompetence, and a possibly very costly defamation lawsuit.

How an innocent woman's name was tied to the Jan. 6 pipe bombs
A federal security officer linked to a thwarted Jan. 6 pipe bomb attack cleared her name by providing an alibi: video of her playing with her puppies at the time the devices were placed, sources told CBS News. The FBI has now ruled her out as a suspect in the 2021 plot, according to three sources — but only after her name circulated on social platforms and a conservative news site.

How an innocent woman's name came to be publicly linked to the unexploded pipe bombs is a question that has raised concerns among some senior officials in the Trump administration.
Multiple sources said that a unit overseen by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard drafted a memo identifying the woman and describing allegations that she had placed the explosive devices outside Democratic and Republican party offices. The memo was written after ODNI was made aware of allegations from an outside source, an ODNI spokesperson said.

ODNI officials said the agency received a tip from a person affiliated with a media organization about potential criminal wrongdoing by an individual believed to be working at an intelligence agency and set about documenting it in a memo.
The Blaze is certainly the media organization behind the tip:
A short time after the unfinished memo began to circulate, the conservative news outlet, Blaze News, published details similar to those in the draft, including the woman's full name.

The Nov. 8 Blaze News article claimed that it had pinpointed the woman after a review of video evidence and "gait analysis" software matched her walking pattern to the gait of a person shown in surveillance footage, who authorities suspect planted bombs outside the party offices on Jan. 5, 2021.

Blaze News said its work had been "confirmed by several intelligence sources."
The phrase ""gait analysis" software" should be accompanied by a laugh track. Obviously, the woman was never seriously considered as a suspect (Come on, she provided a puppy video for her alibi. That is the textbook definition of innocence!). As for any repercussions regarding The Blaze's responsibilities, I can only offer up a song:

I'd not heard of gait analysis before, but Google and Wikipedia suggest that it's primarily a diagnostic tool, used by runners, for example, to enhance their technique, or in medical settings.

It has some forensic evidential value in individual cases, especially if the suspect has a particularly distinctive walk, as one piece of corroborative evidence among others, along with height, build, clothing, etc, but there doesn't seem to be any authority to suggest it's useful as a primary means of identifying individuals in the way fingerprints or DNA analysis are (and they're by no means infallible).

I'm nearly certain for The Blaze, one of their resident 8chan Columbos downloaded an AI-based version, and quickly self-taught themself into a comparative forensics specialist using it.

I remember one case in which I was involved in which the defendant said he recognised himself on some otherwise indestinct CCTV footage from his walk, but he didn't dispute that he'd bought fuel and cigarettes from the petrol station on the evening in question at around that time.

The issue was where he went later and what he did when he got there.

Go fuck yourself, Dan. Past, present and future.

Dan Bongino On Past Pipe Bomb Conspiracy Theories: ‘I Was Paid For My Opinions’
Dan Bongino, the deputy director of the FBI, admitted Thursday his past support for a Jan. 6 conspiracy theory was motivated by money.

In recent years, Bongino repeatedly said on his podcast that the pipe bombs discovered near the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, which did not explode, were some sort of “inside job,” the work of a government official out to get President Donald Trump and his supporters.

Of the pipe bomber, Bongino said just this January: “This was an inside job. And it is the biggest scandal in FBI history.”
In an interview on Fox News this week, host Sean Hannity confronted Bongino about his past statements in light of Bongino’s FBI having finally identified a suspect in the case, a 30-year-old Virginia man with apparently no connection to the government.

“Listen, I was paid in the past, Sean, for my opinions, that’s clear, and one day, I’ll be back in that space,” Bongino said. “But that’s not what I’m paid for now. I’m paid to be your deputy director, and we base investigations on facts.”

Approaching the fifth anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, the official plaque honoring the police who defended democracy that day is nowhere to be found.

It’s not on display at the Capitol, as is required by law. Its whereabouts aren’t publicly known, though it’s believed to be in storage.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, has yet to formally unveil the plaque. And the Trump administration’s Department of Justice is seeking to dismiss a police officers’ lawsuit asking that it be displayed as intended. The Architect of the Capitol, which was responsible for obtaining and displaying the plaque, said in light of the federal litigation, it cannot comment.
