A week later, but it seems like this event is finally going to get the kind of investigation it certainly merits.

There's a whole lot that remains to be explained; but by now we HAVE gotten a very general picture that intelligence validating this threat existed, and was shared with the correct people who then failed or refused to act on it. It seems like practically the whole town was prepared, except for the Capitol Police.

I think the various law enforcement agencies of DC are probably going to have to reform the way events like these are prepared for. I realize that it might lend the impression of the various agencies perhaps losing a bit of their autonomy or sovereignty and they're bound to not like that; but I think information needs to be shared and decisions made in a collaborative way that makes it very obvious to everyone when one agency is dropping the ball. Maybe some kind of requirement that if the intelligence says a particular site is threatened and the agency in charge of that site wants to decide not to take the threat seriously they have to defend that decision to the "committee" beforehand.

And besides all that - there MUST be some kind of standing order or something that no matter WHAT the circumstances, literally no matter what, if the head of a law enforcement agency in charge of securing a Federal building reports that they are overwhelmed and the facility is at this moment being overrun by violent attackers the Pentagon should immediately activate and muster National Guard support. There is no excuse why something like this wasn't already in place! Of all the bullcrappery that took place in the 6th THIS is the part that I still just am totally flabbergasted by. Almost the entire elected leadership of the country minus the President was in the building and unable to escape! How was an attack on this site at that time not treated like a 9/11-level event???

In order to get a pardon, you must admit to the crime. So Trump's pardon might save them for serving time, but it won't put their lives back together. The stain is still there on their record, for potential employers to see, and for everyone around them to be aware of. Small comfort if it's ever put to the test.

But will he? Trump is mercurial at best, so it all hinges on how he views their transaction: will pardoning them provide any benefit to Trump in the future?

If he blames the rioters for all the political & legal damage that he's incurred, they're toast.

Also, they didn't win. They might have done irreperable damage and won in the long term for fascism, but they didn't win -for him- and we know his views on losers.

I'm not so sure about that, Beebo. I mean, President Carter issued a proclamation pardoning draft dodgers, and that was that.

By definition we can't know what crimes would be covered by general pardon for all crimes committed in and around the capitol during the relevant period, or connected with the events leading up to them, since the investigation has only just begun.

(At this point in the movie, you can see Trump's secret service protection team starting to wonder if would be premature to go to CASE NIGHTMARE ORANGE).

Or well, wait. We know why. There IS a system in place but that system was designed around the expectation of a President that actually @%&$ing leads. What was supposed to happen was, the Pentagon and/or SecDef calls the President directly to report the attack and the President is supposed to be like "My god this is serious, send everything you can immediately while I prepare an announcement to the public" and then boom just like that it's done. But we know THAT wasn't in the cards this time was it, not with the Golfenführer being your single point-of-failure.

I pulled that into GIMP and zoomed it up. There is a mention of an attorney "up to speed" on election issues, some mention of martial law, and also a mention of election interference from China & Iran (but not Russia). It's all too fragmentary to piece together any sort of coherence. It might be a security briefing?

Officer Tam Pham, an 18-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, resigned Thursday morning.

Pham briefly spoke to the media when he arrived home Thursday afternoon.

“Please, just give my family privacy,” Pham said. “It’s a really difficult time.”
Family? Of course. You? Not on your life.

Whatever it is, it's not good that he's chatting about it with Trump at the moment, to my mind.

Come to think of it, though, since Trump spends so much of his time with Giuliani and all the other crackpots, that's probably the sort of thing they talk about.

I might put a bid on the coup jet. Not a large bid, but...
Careful, a prof I ran into some years ago told me about the horror of winning a sailing boat that way (she had no plan prepared for moving it because she never thought she would be highest bidder).

There was a very specific crime for Carter's pardons. We don't even know yet what all participants in the coup are guilty of. It's too early. He can try, but I doubt he willl.

This is a man who betrays everyone around him, including those who sell their soul on his behalf. He doesn't think twice about it.

Also, one of the problems he had with the crowds invading Capitol Hill was they didn't look "classy." I'm pretty sure that references people like Horny the Shaman Viking.
