Bad cases make bad law.

He is a whiny entitled snowflake. But he is appealing to the same regulations that cover other religious diets such as hallel, kosher, and vegan.

So letting him have his shamen diet is part of keeping a more humane system.
Of course, maybe they're just telling him it's organic so that he'll shut his whiny pie-hole!

On the other hand, word about his special dietary "needs" may earn him a lot of unwanted attention around the prison complex.

Exactly -- the thing about human rights is that everyone has them, even Julian Assange and Q-Anon shamans, annoying though sometimes I find that, too.

This, from Popehat, is relevant, I think, apropos the insurrectionists' bail terms, which some have contrasted with those offered to BLM supporters arrested in DC last summer

How do you feel about prisoners receiving special kosher, halal, vegetarian or vegan diets because of their religious or other beliefs?

The dc mayor does not have the ability to call up the guard. Guess who does and sat on the request? The MD governor scrambled his guard but did not get permission to let them cross the border ... to say he is pissed is putting it mildly.

Does DC have a National Guard unit? I thought the Marines were the federal defense force in DC. Am I wrong?
Yes but we do not have a governor, who calls up the guard.

They need to subdue and arrest these people. Shoot them if necessary. I had a gun drawn on me walking down the wrong hallway, looking for a restroom, in the Capital building and was pretty confident that they would shoot me if I didn't stop as instructed.
Them walking around with flags and phones is beyond frustrating as you can not even wear a slogan thing in there.

I think it boils down to whether or not I want to accept QAnon as a religion.
No, I don't think that's it -- he apparently thinks he's a shaman, which as far as he's concerned means he should eat only organic food.

The fact he believes he's a shaman who must have organic food probably explains why he also supports QAnon -- he's bonkers -- but I don't think he's saying he requires organic food because he's a QAnon supporter.

You, Madam, nailed it! They should all be reunited with their idol ... in an asylum.

His mother claims he gets "physically sick" if he doesn't eat organic food. This is not a religion or a...shaman thing, at least according to 'mom.'

Just a conspiracy theory, right?

There is a simple chain of events that even news outlets doing the best work are still tiptoeing around. After President Trump gave his speech to the insurrectionists on Wednesday he returned to the White House and excitedly watched the storming of the Capitol on TV. As members of Congress were besieged and then retreated to a secure undisclosed location, Trump received numerous pleas from members of Congress to send reinforcements or call on his supporters to disperse. He refused because he liked what he was seeing.

Eventually Trump was persuaded to okay sending in federal law enforcement and the National Guard. And he half-heartedly told his insurrectionist supporters to disperse but only in a message expressing support for them and restating the grievances which were the rationale for the insurrection in the first place. Republican Senators were reportedly particularly incensed by this because they believed it encouraged them to remain in place. But it’s this initial period, which seems to have gone on for between 90 minutes and two hours that demands our attention.

Lonnie Leroy Coffman of Alabama appears to be the most serious defendant of more than 20 known federal defendants so far. He is currently detained and is set to appear before a judge this afternoon.

According to the new indictments, Coffman faces 17 criminal counts, largely for possession of multiple weapons including ammunition, shotgun shells and various guns, including a shotgun, a rifle, 3 pistols and 11 Molotov cocktails without registration in Washington, DC, on Jan. 6, according to the indictment.

Another man, Mark Jefferson Leffingwell, faces seven counts related to violence inside the Capitol building. He is released from detention at this time.

That's a bit different, I agree, though I still see nothing wrong in principle in accommodating prisoners' requests for an organic diet (it's certainly a problem for Rastafarians, some of whom think believe they should follow an organic diet in prison, though they don't normally get one, at least not in the UK).

According to a 2016 report by HM Prisons Inspectorate (pdf)

Poor nutritional provision can, not only have a lasting impact on the wellbeing of an individual in custody, but it is also costly to the custodial estate. Various medical complications that arise from poor nutrition, including nutritional deficiencies, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and high cholesterol, add burden to prison health resources. Food can also affect security resourcing and safety in prison, as frustration over food can serve as a catalyst for aggression and dissent.

Studies have also found that nutritional supplements reduce disciplinary incidents, aggression and violent behaviour, pointing to the importance of nutrition to safety in prisons. In other words, prisoners eating well is not just a matter of prisoner wellbeing but is also of practical and financial concern to the prison service.

In addition, instilling healthy eating habits aids in rehabilitation and reintegration into the community after release. A large proportion of prisoners may have led chaotic lifestyles in the community that put their health at risk. A major part of rehabilitation is education about and the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, and a crucial component of this is a healthy, balanced diet.

I think what many people are laughing about is that someone who sided against those who believe in rights for all is complaining now, and demanding special treatment, i.e. a right his types have deemed wrong for others. They’re laughing at the position he is now in, having to ask for this right and having to depend on laws Republicans aren’t known to hold dear.

Also funny, organic food is associated with soy boy liberals (according to trumpists usually).

I don’t think there are many who are thinking only those on their “side” should get rights. I may be wrong, maybe many would like to see him be denied his rights, but I don’t think it’s a majority, especially here.
