I'm sure there are worse candidates than JD Vance for consolidating the right wing crazoid party. Their names don't immediately occur to me...
Haha, there are plenty of more overtly crazy right wingers like David Duke or Steve King (not that Steven King) who said the quiet part out loud about White supremacy being good...

I have no love for Vance and see him as a snake. But my biggest hope with him is just that he lacks the cult charisma to get away with most of what Trump did.

They don't even have to seriously run next time, the damage is so systemic that the dems won't be able to repair much wihtout invoking a riot/rebellion from the entire magasphere. Conservatives can safely step aside, let dems take the fall then ride back in with the same hollow promises of 'fixing it all' again.

They'll want another unmitigated asshole in the white house, not a trump lacky, which rules out most of the republican front runners... For the same level of blowhard+idiocy, they might go with Jim Jordan.

Like Andrew Jackson set up Martin Van Buren to take the fall for Jackson's crazy policies.

It hasn't even taken a year. But I don't think of America as democratic now.
You are controlled.

And I see little that you're doing about it.
This occured to you just now?

Sheesh, many people on this forum have been ahead of you by at least two decades.

Personally, I realized that the American system is deeply flawed when W. Bush and Cheney got installed into the White House by the SCOTUS. And just like you, I'm not even living there. I'm also definitely not the first to reach that conclusion.

So, congrats to figuring out the obvious.

But if you had fully understood the problem, then you would also have realized that the system itself is set up in way that limits what the average person can do about correcting it.

It really seems like there should be a "bless his heart" after "Vance."

Well, you're not going to see much on most mainstream media, but Rachel Maddow does a great job of highlighting the grassroots resistance that has popped up all across the country. Every week she highlights protests and pushbacks against Trump that have led to success. Heather Cox Richardson -- historian podcaster -- is putting out near-daily reports that place events in their historical context and outlining actions that people can take.

We're fighting a fascist trend that has been strengthening for decades and that is a resurgence of the same elements who have been around since the first Europeans stepped foot in the Americas. Heather Cox Richardson boils it down to two different strains of thought that are battling for dominance of the United States: people who think a small group of elites are better than everyone else and people who think all humans are born equal and deserve equal treatment under the law and equal access to education, healthcare and participation in governance.

Erika Kirk accidentally used the word “grift” instead of “grit” while describing the work of her late husband, Charlie Kirk.

Erika, 37, made the flub while she was honoring a student named Caleb at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest in Phoenix on Saturday, Dec. 20, video of the moment shared online shows.

"Despite the devastating loss of Charlie Kirk, my incredible husband ... Caleb has persisted with the same grift,” Erika said, before stating "gift,” then finally, “grit.”

“It has been a long day,” she continued, then turning to the student and adding, "Trust me, you're not a grifter, honey. It's all good."
Charlie Kirk isn't anything any more. He's dead. Erika Kirk, on the other hand...

APSU professor awarded $500k after firing over Charlie Kirk comments
Days after being reinstated to his position, a theater professor at Austin Peay State University will receive a $500,000 payout as part of a settlement following his firing in September due to comments he made on social media about conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.

A lawyer for Professor Darren Michael confirmed to The Tennessean that Michael will receive $500,000, as well as reimbursement for therapeutic counseling services, as part of a settlement agreement with the Clarksville university.

David King, Michael's attorney, confirmed that while the settlement closes the chapter on restoring Michael's employment, they are "exploring future options" against those who "interfered with (Michael's) First Amendment rights."
Note that Professor Michael's social media post that set all this off was a Facebook entry of his where he shared an article titled “Charlie Kirk says gun deaths are ‘unfortunately’ worth it to keep 2nd Amendment,” with no comment from him.

It couldn't happen to a shittier organization.

TURNING POINT USA COMMUNICATIONS staffer Aubrey Laitsch was called into a meeting last month and abruptly told she was being fired, according to a video she posted online last week.

In her telling, the reason Laitsch was given for being let go involved a convoluted story about an Uber ride. It went like this:

A TPUSA executive had taken an Uber and asked his driver what he thought of the organization. The driver replied that he had heard it was in chaos in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination—and that no one inside TPUSA liked Erika Kirk, Kirk’s widow and now TPUSA’s CEO. Then the Uber driver revealed to the TPUSA executive that the source of his information was Laistch, who the driver claimed was a high school friend of his daughter’s.
A strange story, and one Laitsch said she didn’t buy. She then offered up another explanation—one she said didn’t come up during her discussion with TPUSA executives but which she sensed was a factor in her termination.

Laitsch, as she outlined in her video, seems to genuinely believe that her own organization had something to do with its founder’s murder or an ensuing coverup.
For the conspiracy theorists on this one, I wish you well and hope you get plenty of guest spots on conservative podcasts.

The movement to canonize Charlie Kirk may be subsiding.

More than 100 people packed a Bastrop County commissioners meeting on Monday to voice their objections or support for a proposed resolution to support legislation to designate FM 969 as an honorary memorial to Charlie Kirk.

No action was taken because Commissioner David Glass, who had proposed the resolution, asked to table it. He later said in an email to the Statesman that he tabled the resolution because of the number of emails he received.
