I'll point out this excerpt:
Much of the panic stems from claims by the Heritage Foundation (the same organization behind Project 2025) arguing that ambiguities in state election laws could provide an opportunity to challenge a Biden replacement.
This right here. If the Heritage Foundation tells you the sky is blue, you'd better open your window and stick your head out to make sure. All they do is lie.

I mean God Damn it!!!
I get that anger, that fear, the despair. I really do. I felt it myself for so long, since 2016, even. I still feel bits of it sometimes, but it's different now. I have so much to live for yet, and I'm not letting anyone take that away from me - not without a fight!

The future isn't written yet. Beyond voting and contacting our representatives, we as individuals have no real control over what happens in federal politics. So don't worry or panic about it. (I'm not trying to be flippant, I swear! 🤗) Be aware of events, but don't let them dominate your thoughts. It's hard to do, and I wish I had better advice. I struggle with it too. Therapy helps. (The merits and pitfalls of representational democracy, American style, is a whole 'nother thread.)

I'm just gonna link this here instead of posting the whole thing twice: https://www.virtualverse.one/forums/threads/the-2024-u-s-presidential-race.13331/post-250559

But this is the tl;dr part.
To sum up:
If we fight, we might lose.
If we give up, we will lose.
Nobody knows the future, and if somebody says they do, they're trying to sell you something.
Don't give up. Don't give in. This isn't over.
I'll add this: Plan ahead for the worst however you can. At the same time, do what you can locally, even if it's something small - something that'll give you hope, something to fight for.

I was pissed, but.... the pro-Harris wave is stronger than I expected and the Dem party seems to be sweeping toward a consensus. This change may have injected a level of enthusiasm into the campaign that wasn't there before, and it has for certain unsettled the Trump camp. They based their VP choice and campaign strategies on belittling Joe Biden -- now, all that saliva-speckled venom has gone to waste.
:qft:

This morning when I saw his announcement, I grew more depressed than I had yet, even with all the DNC fussbudgets clutching their pearls. But as the day went on, it became clear to me that Harris might just have the support and the chops to do this. And we haven't even heard who her VP will be.

Inject me with more optimism, please. I like it!

I went through pretty much the same process you did as I tried to process what happened. Watching the Democratic Party unify behind Kamala Harris gave me new hope.

Donations to the Dems skyrocketed enormously after Biden's departure. They received 50$ mio. online in only 8 hours online, so $11.5 mio in 1 hour instead usually $200K.

Trump is far less comfortable facing a woman opponent, not to mention a black woman! Anything that unsettles him -- loss of limelight, change of tactic, uppity females -- is useful.
I agree. I'm feeling a lot better today than I did yesterday for sure. MAGA was taunting that Biden should step down but wasn't prepared for him to actually do it. And Harris is drawing A LOT of new energy into the campaign.

That's dumb. The ban on plastic straws is dumb too. Places give you a paper straw and a cup made of at least 10 times the amount of plastic in the straw.

I think that Harris has a really good chance. I know a lot of people who are saying that they'd vote for anyone under 70 and they mean it.

When Hillary Clinton ran I was one of those people who was not very enthused. Basically, I held my nose and voted for her because I was terrified of more Supreme Court appointments by Republicans and I could not stomach the Orange Shit Show. I know a lot of other people who felt the same way but instead decided not to vote at all rather than to vote for Hillary.

When it comes to Harris, I really do think she's very competent and I agree with a large percentage of her policies. She's not trying to establish a dynasty, she's an excellent debater and she's clearly intelligent and not afraid to do what she thinks is right. I can get behind that without holding my nose when I vote. I'm hoping other people who were not enthused about Biden feel the same way.

When Hillary Clinton ran...
When Clinton lost, it was all too easy to believe that the U.S. simply wouldn't elect a woman president. I'm as guilty of that thought as anyone, but... there really was more to it than that. Clinton carried DECADES of baggage and animosity with her; it doesn't matter whether it was deserved or not, it was there. That history complicated people's reactions to her.

I'm hoping that the problem was Clinton herself, rather than her gender, that tipped the scales. Which is not to say that misogyny doesn't play a part in U.S. politics, but maybe, just maybe, it's not an automatic death knell for a candidate.

One advantage for Harris is that she's been low-profile enough that large numbers of people don't hate her specifically. There may be lots of people who don't like her gender or her race(s), but she's largely free of the very personal animosity that was aimed at Clinton. General prejudice weighed against Trump's odiousness.... It's not that predictable an outcome.

Another positive is that Dems are dominating the news cycles with a largely positive spin. Biden is being lauded for his duty to country, Harris is breaking fund-raising records.

Trump HATES not being the center of attention. Hee hee.
