President Joe Biden drops out of 2024 presidential race

NBC News.

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he will end his presidential re-election campaign, bringing an abrupt and humbling conclusion to his half-century-long political career and scrambling the race for the White House just months before Election Day.
Biden, 81, could not reverse growing sentiment within his party that he was too frail to serve and destined to lose to Donald Trump in November.
So now what?

So disheartening. This news leaves me deeply saddened. Despite how they tried to spin it as 'good for the party' and 'he's too old and decrepit', this process struck me as a pile-on by both his party and the media. Nothing equivalent ever happens in the republican side of dirt-churning. They hide it and whisper about it secretly, never dragging their own leader down into the mud.

I blame the moneyed boosters behind the DNC. The pressure wasn't really publicized as much as it should have been, and now the D's are left without a leader in the middle of a raft trip down a river.

I'll vote for whoever they nominate. Back in '16, I backed Warren until she endorsed Joe. Joe wasn't my first pick but he did more than I, or anyone else, ever expected. I guess now I'm left to vote for whoever they nominate. Again. Ok, anything but the Orange Turd.

Extreme uncertain times ahead.
But still a good decision IMHO. President Biden became too old too soon (for these elections).
Speaker Johnson had already said Republicans may go to court to keep a replacement off the ballot in some states. So a clusterfuck at best. Will you be calling for the elder felon in cognitive decline to withdraw with the same passion? This is a win for the fascists. Hope you're fucking happy.

The Democratic convention will be a convention, not a coronation. We can use that to contrast with Trump.

.Don't forget most people ignore politics during the summer, and only get serious in the fall
The Democratic convention happens after the nomination deadline for a half dozen states. It is irrelevant. If there is no nominee in the next week we lose ballot access.

Okay that does it. You can't blame me for stupid new election laws in your home state.

Discussion is seemingly not welcome. Only whining.
I understand that there are emotions now, but I'm not your doormat or punch ball.

See you all later or not.

You couldn't be more wrong. All he honestly had to do ..bare minimum... was make the occasional commercial that said "I'm not trump, you want me" and coast.

Not that fucking hard.

Now we get Trump, it's his election to lose (and he won't).

You pushed the Republican line. Own it.

Presidential primaries and ballot deadlines are not new. The current system is a century old.

I don't think anyone who was even remotely considering voting for Biden will turn around and vote for Trump now. It's far more likely most of them won't vote at all now. Which is just as bad.
It's hard to say. Honestly, at this point everything depends on how things play out in a small number of swing states. If the GOP blocks the DNC candidate in enough of those, then gameover.bmp

I am going to say now we [the Democrats] are a free people, not tied to a sovereign, but able to make our own selection of who will lead us and not settle for the defacto leader of the party. We will not settle for one who would choose a smothering autocracy, deny our rights, and increase the sufferings of those who fortune does not favor. We reject King Donald the first, his corruption, his cronies and his indifferent greed and stifling lack of interest in the nation and in the world. We can finally bring the fight to him, and no longer play defense. We should go on the offensive, and root him out for the well being and safety of everyone.

That is the line we (the Democratic party) need to take to win this election.
