To clarify my laugh, I don’t find this level of coordination funny. I find the fact they obviously don’t know how their tools work funny.
Also that they seemed to have learned how to speak on radios from 80s movies and using can and string in their pillow forts to practice.
Like I called them up-thread, the Paintball Militia.

The FBI’s D.C. field office received a failing grade on a 2018 internal assessment of its ability to combat domestic terrorism, NBC reports.

The assessment took place from 2017 through most of 2018, and found that “mechanisms to collect, analyze and share threat intelligence were lacking.”

TPM has reported on the Department of Homeland Security’s lack of preparation for the Jan. 6 insurrection attempt.

But the country’s main federal law enforcement body, the FBI, appears to have also failed to recognize the scale of the planned attack before it took place.

Hope.

On his commute home to Germantown, Md., Smith spotted remnants of Wednesday’s riot strewn around the streets. Trash littered Pennsylvania Avenue and adjacent areas, and signs and stickers with racist and fascist symbols and messages were “all over the place,” he recalled.

Smith decided he wanted to do something about it, calling on a group of fellow veterans and volunteers to do a thorough sweep of the area around the Capitol and downtown D.C. Beyond ridding the area of hateful markings, Smith hoped to reinforce that the veterans who participated in the siege do not represent them all.

On Jan. 10, close to 200 volunteers congregated at McPherson Square, trash bags in hand. They fanned out and spent two hours collecting “Stop the Steal” and other pro-Trump paraphernalia that had been littered during the riots, and also used scrapers and adhesive remover to peel off signs and stickers featuring logos and symbols from various neo-Nazi and alt-right groups.
“There was so much good energy, especially in the fallout of something so negative,” Smith said.

The plot thickens.

Large bitcoin payments to right-wing activists a month before Capitol riot linked to foreign account
On Dec. 8, someone made a simultaneous transfer of 28.15 bitcoins — worth more than $500,000 at the time — to 22 different virtual wallets, most of them belonging to prominent right-wing organizations and personalities.

Now cryptocurrency researchers believe they have identified who made the transfer, and suspect it was intended to bolster those far-right causes. U.S. law enforcement is investigating whether the donations were linked to the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol.

I was just thinking... I might take pot shots at establishment democrats like Biden, because I do half expect them to let a lot of people go unpunished for this terrorism, but what if they went another direction?

We all know Biden's 'aw, shucks' good guy persona is fake. The guy brags about writing the Patriot Act, which I despise, but at the same time... maybe this is the right time to have somebody like that in the white house?

Imagine if he declared the capitol terrorists to be enemy combatants, under the Patriot Act. Then, the military, the CIA, and all kinds of other government spooks could hunt right wing extremists on American soil with impunity, effectively reversing the laissez faire stance the government has had towards right wing extremism since at least the Branch Davidian disaster.

This would strip them of their rights as American citizens, but at the same time, if we are going to do that to anybody, it should be these guys. I don't like the Patriot Act at all. I don't like anybody having the power to strip civil rights from people. This situation seems like the best argument for the existence of the Patriot Act, though. If the military isn't going to fully engage with people who assault the capitol, and congress, then are they really defending the country? If the Patriot Act is going to be on the books, now seems like the right time to use it.

I feel like a total hypocrite for saying this, but I don't think I'd be opposed to using the Patriot Act against the terrorists who attacked the capitol.

If this did happen, the terrorists who have already been arrested would be the lucky ones. The ones who are still out there, and not going through the legal system before the inauguration, they would be hunted like Bin Laden.
