The attitude, the ideology, the very thought that we should just live with children being murdered makes me want to scream. I often wonder if they would feel the same way if it was their child that was killed in a mass shooting.
But of course not - their kids are in private schools, or homeschooled by the finest. School shootings are for poor kids, not the elites. /s

That was hard to watch... The ONLY silver lining is the hope that the generation that grew up with this bullshit will one day repeal the 2nd amendment.
It's not the 2nd amendment that's the problem, it's the screwball interpretations and the failure of state and federal legislators to pass gun control laws.

My point stands. I think that generation will really tighten gun control, regardless of the exact legal method. I'd like to see the second amendment repealed too, but it would suit me just as well if we restored the consensus that the second amendment wasn't so damn powerful...

So, I'm of several minds on this - one, well-regulated would mean that its perfectly find to regulate the ownership of guns, just not to take them away entirely;
two, the fact of when this new interpretation happened, after gun manufacturers had taken over the NRA [or maybe during], makes the current interpretation suspect; three, now is probably not the time to limit ownership of guns since we're in the beginnings of a civil war, and I'd be happier with more folks on our side being armed with ranged weapons too.

Also, the fact that people with medical marijuana cards are unable to do background checks to get guns says a lot - they don't want hippies having guns, only psychotic white conservatives, combined with the fact that Fascists tend to take guns away and it feels like, right now, they are trying to make non-fascists do their dirty work to further rile their base.

I think the second amendment's wording is so poor that it is easy to rationalize whatever you want it to mean. The rest of the amendments are far more clear. For example, the first makes it CLEAR you're not supposed to ban religions or speech. The second means you maybe can have gun control but just not an absolute ban and who knows exactly how much gun control is too much?! It needs to be rewritten if not outright repealed, but I know this country will never agree on a new version... at least not anytime soon.

three, now is probably not the time to limit ownership of guns since we're in the beginnings of a civil war, and I'd be happier with more folks on our side being armed with ranged weapons too.
I'm still hoping like hell this can be avoided since if there is a civil war, I think the left will lose. It's obvious there will be more right wing terrorist activity, but if the authorities join the right at all, the left loses.

We have a pretty good idea what the framers meant. The original intent of the 2nd amendment is deeply rooted in racism. To bring the southern states on board with the whole idea of a united collection of states, they wanted reassurance that local militias could be formed to put down slave rebellions.

That is interesting and makes complete sense. I'm also aware of the fact that most of the stronger gun control laws in US history targeted minorities. ...but what does the second amendment mean in a modern context? Does it still mean anything now that we freed the slaves and have granted them equal rights? (at least officially). I understand a variety of reasons for the second amendment historically, but I don't believe it still serves a clear purpose or that it still has a clear meaning.

I'm not sure I agree because most of these right wing terrorists are complete wimps when faced with -any- sort of opposition - and having the witnesses the 6th committee has had gives me more hope than I had.

I want to agree, but would just say to be careful with underestimating an enemy. Some dumb fanatics can be very brave indeed from what I've seen. But I also know that for every one brave fanatic they have a lot of neckbeards who will talk big on forums but not do shit.

Well, also, don't underestimate how many leftists have guns and actually know how to use them.

Seriously, if it comes down to it, its going to be a huge mess.

Oooo - a blow gun might be more up my alley - I don't like loud weapons. We're looking at crossbows, and we've swords, daggers including some that might as well be short swords, machetes....
I used to be pretty good with throwing knives.
