Bakewell tart. Home made, still warm from the oven and stolen off the worktop the moment the icing and cherry have been added. I can evade a slap with a palette knife, I can Sweet pastry, frangipane with the almond aroma still present, home made raspberry jam. I'm going to have to settle for a slice of toast instead

Tuesday for dinner I had CHINESE FOOD. Pink pork bits in the fried rice and sweet & sour chicken and lo mein noodles piled on with carrots and pea pods and broccoli sprouts. Absolute nummy.

For Wednesday lunch I had...a bit of the leftover lo mein. Lo mein cold is a thing. I like that thing.

Then Wednesday for dinner I had...CHINESE FOOD. Lots of leftovers to go through. Reheated it's not as nummy as the first night, but still quite good.

Then Thursday lunch I had...nothing. Sometimes I'm not into lunch.

Then Thursday for dinner I had...barbeque wings. They've been sitting there waiting to be eaten, so they were well soaked in the barbeque sauce. Great sauce. Oh, and also I finished off the fried rice!

No more Chinese food left in the apartment. Guess what I'm craving?

I had to look that up. Kind of like general Tao? Or, in classic (N. American) Chinese food here, there was always pineapple chicken included in our orders growing up. The sauce was bright red and sticky sweet.

Maybe pineapple in everything is a Canadian thing?

Anyway, feeling like Chinese takeout, now.

Our Dairy Queen at the end of the street turned into "Dairy Crown" or something, after a few months they were intermittently out of random things, and finally all they served were seriously inauthentic "Wizzards". They're a dodgy car dealership now.

Right now? I want a warm August night, at a classic drive-in like Porkey's used to be, with a basket heaping with a grilled steak sandwich with A1 (dill pickle spears on the side), Onion rings with oodles of ketchup, coleslaw, and a cold diet coke. I want to look out at all the classic cars that used to parade around Porkey's (on a given night, I forget which, all the classic car owners would get out and drive around University avenue). I want someone next to me blasting classic rock on their car stereo, and a couple guys further down arguing over which is the best 1960's classic car - 66 mustang vs firebird. On the drive home, I'll stop at Bridgeman's for a dish of neopolitan ice cream to go.



Then I wake up.

I was planning chicken wings and broiled corn on the cob for dinner Friday night! But when I pulled the corn from the packaging, it was sour smelling. And I just bought it Thursday night. Grrr.

I tried washing them and then broiling, but the smell lingered, and whether it affected the taste I couldn't tell because the smell was still there, which ruined the experience totally. I can still smell it in the kitchen when I walk through.
