For one thing, I could not have learned Blender and much more without the mesh forum, from people like ChinRey. Also, as a merchant and creator who earns her living in SL, being able to get info directly from and to provide feedback to Lindens is essential. Like today, changes in marketplace were announced, and a bug was immediately reported, both in the forum.

.Plus there are a lot of great people, many of whom post here. Of course there is also a lot of ridiculous drama, some from people banned from here, some from snowflakes.

The number of people banned from here is really tiny. I don't have any statistics but off the top of my head it seems like two people a year that I know of, at least who have been here for more than 1/2 dozen posts.

I only know of two exiles, one banned, the other maybe just got her head handed to here. They Have been busy, trolling the forum by hijacking threads to talk about their religious and political beliefs.Their impact is out of proportion to their numbers.

Two characters banned, both for hijacking, one for stalking. Venn diagram with two pairs might be a circle.

I think its a mistake to call the beliefs exposed by trolls "their" beliefs. The entire point of the interaction is to say whatever is the opposite of what the majority opinion is. If the same troll is on another board that thinks peas are good instead of evil (as we all agree), they'd claim they were the best food ever.

Exactly, It’s all about attention.

I am involved with an email list on another topic. Not the moderator but I get seen as spouting official policy (it is a tenant's group and I am on the board). A few years ago they were trying to establish list rules and I said some variation 'whatever the mod says is the law'. I do not believe in tying a mod's hands because someone will go RIGHT up to the line and not cross it. Nope, they needed exact rules however nobody wanted to put together a list of them (which de facto means there are no rules).

I feel for the moderator and have tried to point out to the worst offender that maybe some other pattern of action would get a better response. I am in an elected position for that group and know I have lost her vote. I do not really care if it makes the mod's life easier to have her ire directed at me instead of him (good cop/bad cop).

So yes, there are people who will go right up to a line if you define one. A mod needs to have a free hand for when someone does that instead of rules like 'say one of the 7 naughty words and your inworld account gets suspended'.

Good to see you still rolling, Cristiano. Or should I say Christiano? :p
Foolish man! I still have burn marks on my butt from the last time I spelled Cris' name with an h.

(great to see you after all this time Flip!)

I used to love the SL Forums but when everything changed over there I scooted over here, or to SLU I mean. And the atmosphere and people there suited me fine. I got busy for a couple of weeks and when I went back the place was dead. I was so relieved when I finally found you all here. Thanks Cris for doing this. It means a lot to me.
