You would think they would have learned from the 2000 election debacle and tightened up processes and procedures. But, nope. About the only thing that's changed is that we haven't heard about hanging chads, yet.
The House needs to focus on cleaning up elections — eliminating voter suppression, designing a good ballot, updating the ballot machines and security, streamlining vote counting — as first order of business, even though voters never name these things as top concerns,

Why would they do that? 2000 went in their favor. They want things to be even worse than that so they can keep winning.

Republicans don't give a shit about being hypocrites. So what if they've been in power for the past 18 years and set all the rules they are now complaining about? They don't care. The ends justify the means.

This is also how "elections have consequences" turns into "don't forget about the wishes of the minority" the instant they lose power.

Fuck I don't remember
Honestly, the ballot design and all the other issues wouldn’t be a problem if FL didn’t over-purge our voter rolls, abuse the signature-matching on absentee ballots, and deliberately sabotage facilities in minority districts.

This wouldn’t be close if the real majority of FL were allowed to vote freely.

Election day concessions are dumb anyway. Unless it's a blowout so many people are absentee or mail-in that it will take days or weeks to count anyway. We have two goddamn months before the next government is seated there's no fucking rush.

It's not only a Florida problem. We were 600 voting machines short in the Atlanta area, despite early voting being 2.2 times higher than the last midterm. It's not that the machines weren't available, they were sitting in a warehouse. As a result, some people had to wait three hours in line, and the polls were kept open that long in some precincts. Republicans tried to cut one rural county's voting locations from 9 to 2, until the furor stopped them.

As far as Florida, the amendment to restore voting rights to felons after they served their sentence will add *1.5 million people* to the eligibles list. My guess is not many would vote R.

They have to request reactivation as a registered voter beginning January 8th. That will need to be very well publicized and accommodated. And nearly a third are ineligible while they’re still on probationary parole. This is a long term effort that will ideally be worked into the release mechanism.

What the?

I assume that is yours? How can it be return to sender as I assume they filled out the address on the envelope? If they filled out the address contact the ACLU about vote fraud at your election office.

Yep, Trump is completely off his nut now.
Even with his propensity for tearing up things there must be a document he signed back in the 70s or 80s that is public record. I would just LOVE to see a handwriting expert compare that signature to his signature today and point out the discrepancies.

Signatures drift over time. No sane person (including the tellers in your bank) judges if a document is legal or not based on if a signature matches the one on file. At most it is something that can be pointed to and the purported signer asked under oath if they signed it.

I like that we had a record turnout, but I don't like that it was only 49 percent. That means just over half of all eligible Americans just said "fuck it" and stayed home. We need to get those numbers up, especially in 2020.

Yes, it will call for a sustained information, registration, and get out the vote drive. One possibility is to recruit people who have served their time as organizers.

Trump celebrates Veterans Day by pushing to disenfranchise overseas military voters

According to Florida law, ballots from military personnel overseas must be counted if they arrive by November 16.

On Monday morning, President Donald Trump tweeted that it was time to call the Florida election in favor of the Republican candidate for Governor, Ron DeSantis, and the Republican candidate for Senate, Rick Scott, because the leads these two men had on election night have been tightening as votes have continued to be counted.

Trump said that “large numbers of new ballots showed up out of nowhere” and that “many ballots are missing or forged.”

“Must go with Election Night!” the leader of the free world tweeted.

That’s bad news for the military. Ballots from overseas citizens and military voters had to be postmarked by November 6, 2018, which was election day. But as long as the ballots arrive by November 16, the law mandates that they must be counted.

“A 10-day extension exists for overseas voters. The overseas voter’s vote-by-mail ballot must be postmarked or dated by Election Day and received within 10 days of the election in order to be counted, provided the ballot is otherwise proper,” according to the official website of the Florida Division of Elections.

It sounds definite, but that "projected" bothers me.

NPR.org, November 12, 2018 · Democrat Kyrsten Sinema has defeated Republican Martha McSally to win the Arizona Senate race, the Associated Press projected Monday evening.

With Sinema's victory to flip the open seat of retiring GOP Sen. Jeff Flake, she becomes the first Democrat Arizona has elected to the Senate since 1988. She will not only be the state's first female senator, but she will also be the first openly bisexual senator in U.S. history.

Shortly after the race was called in her favor, Sinema wrote on Twitter that she will "be an independent voice for all Arizonans."

McSally also posted a video saying she had called Sinema to congratulate her.

They are all projected until the officer in charge of elections in each state certifies the totals. Deadlines vary.
