Boom.

A federal judge sent a strong message to each of the so-called “Kraken” lawyers behind litigation to upend the 2020 election, ordering that they be referred for a professional conduct investigation and “possible suspension or disbarment.” The attorneys include pro-Trump lawyers Lin Wood and Sidney Powell.
Full of indignation and spanning 110 pages, U.S. District Judge Linda Parker‘s ruling reads like a treatise on the judiciary’s role in protecting the democratic process.

“This lawsuit represents a historic and profound abuse of the judicial process,” Judge Parker wrote in her opinion and order. “It is one thing to take on the charge of vindicating rights associated with an allegedly fraudulent election. It is another to take on the charge of deceiving a federal court and the American people into believing that rights were infringed, without regard to whether any laws or rights were in fact violated. This is what happened here.”

Boom.

This thread provides a very enjoyable account of how Judge Parker analysed and nailed every every misdirection and downright lie in the multiple lawsuits with which Trump's attorneys sought to abuse the courts:

If Australia can use paper ballots anyone can.

I love their party names. Some of them are so descriptive! "Victorian socialists", "shooters, fishers, and hunters". The voluntary euthanasiaists have my sympathy, but for some reason their demographic keeps shrinking every election, LOL

Arizona Republican ‘audit’ finds even bigger lead for Biden in 2020 election (msn.com)

A partisan, Republican-instigated so-called “audit” of the 2020 election result in Arizona has confirmed that Joe Biden did indeed beat Donald Trump in Maricopa county, the state’s most populous county, according to a draft report of the review.

A month-long hand count of the 2.1m ballots cast in Maricopa county, which includes Phoenix, found that Biden actually won 360 more votes than Trump than was reported in the November election. Biden won Arizona’s 11 electoral votes on his way to getting more votes nationally than any presidential candidate in history during the election.
Of course, no one remembers me saying this would happen.

Republicans sure do seem to love to waste money lately. This follows their failed attempt to recall California's Democratic governor, a move that cost state taxpayers around a quarter billion dollars. I wonder what's next.
Think of the Republican Party as being this washing machine, and Trump as the lump of metal tossed in. It makes the party unbalanced and eventually tears itself apart. But it doesn't happen all at once. The gyrations get wilder and wilder, and factions start splitting off, until the whole thing falls over and dies.

Amazingly enough, the washer was off balance to start out, too.

What happens to the Republican Party after Trump, by which I mean after 2024 at the latest, by which time he'll either run or he doesn't, and he does run, he'll either win or he'll lose?

Either way, the Republican Party have painted themselves into a corner by positioning themselves as the "Party of Donald J Trump," without any particular shared ideology other than a shared desire to gain and hold power for its own sake, and to pursue their own ends, rather than as any sort of coalition with common goals other than winning, so individual candidates can enjoy being in office.

That works until it doesn't, but then what happens after Trump loses the 2024 election, or doesn't run, or is arrested, or wins the election but, by 2028, has failed to declare himself President for Life, or dies of apoplexy brought on by a surfeit of lampreys?

At that point, it's all going to explode, I'd have thought, as the various factions all try to make off with as much of the Party's support and resources they can commandeer and take with them.

Well, the first thing that's happening is counties that voted heavily for Trump are losing about 0.2% more people to COVID than counties that didn't. That's on top of long-term demographic trends making the US more diverse and liberal. So the Republican Party as a whole, in federal and state elections, will tend to lose seats. Coming up soon is redistricting as a result of the 2020 Census. The detailed data necessary to do that were only released last month. While Republican-controlled states will try to gerrymander districts to hold as many seats as possible, there is only so much you can do in the face of large population shifts. So I expect some losses on the R side in the mid-term elections.

The legal system grinds slowly, but it does move forward. Trump is in legal jeopardy in New York and Georgia. Some of his real estate loans come due next year, and he may lose some of his properties. Either of those could peel away some voters because it punctures his facade of being a smart businessman. Like everyone else, Trump is getting older, and health problems may take him down.

Trump may run in 2024, but I expect he will lose by a wider margin than in 2020 if he does.

Yes, but what I mean is, there are all these people, whether they're active politicians in elected office or in party activity, or political or media figures of some sort, and ultimately party supporters and voters whose views, political positions, and support have all been calibrated around Donald Trump, and the agree to which the support or disagree with him, and about what.

Take Trump out of the game, as we both think will happen in 2024 at the latest, but most sooner or later happen anyway, and what have the Republicans left? At the national level, they seem to be very much a group of warring factions, many of whom have very little in common, other than the party label and some generally right-wing attitudes?

Last I heard, DeSantis was the front-runner. I guess that makes sense for a death cult.

Yes, but take Trump out of the picture and what then? You're back to 2016, with what looked like a couple of dozen "front runners" at one point, plus added MAGA and crazies.
