Most of Trump’s deportation campaign is inaccessible because after arrests are made, it is moving quickly, far from public view. And because it is targeting people who have spent an average of 16 years in the United States, trying, in many cases, to avoid public attention, rather than court it. That makes it difficult to fathom the full picture of what’s happening. In the age of virality, our devices offer up individual case studies, allowing us to congregate around them virtually. Although this is useful in helping us understand what happens when a person is plucked from their home, it takes our attention away from the larger story—more than half a million people deported, millions more at risk—and focuses us instead on a tiny part of it.
She told me about a lawful permanent resident of 50 years whose child is a U.S. citizen and whose deceased wife was as well. The man explained in court that ICE agents had mistaken him for someone else when they arrested him. But he admitted in court to having a single criminal conviction—simple marijuana possession from 30 years ago—so the judge decided to let the deportation case against him proceed. The man told the judge that his belongings would soon be thrown into the street if he wasn’t released; he needed to go back to work and pay rent. “He began to panic,” Dawson told me. “He said, ‘My people don’t even know that I’m here. They came and took me from my bed.’” Dawson said the man asked the judge why this was happening after he had spent so many decades in the United States. She replied, “Sir, this is happening across the country.”

This shit with ICE continues to provide Republicans opportunities to get their racist boners up.

The president of Boston University College Republicans wrote on X he called the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement requesting it detain employees at Allston Car Wash, the site of a Nov. 4 raid where nine employees were arrested.

“I’ve been calling ICE for months on end. This week they finally responded to my request to detain these criminals,” BUCR President Zac Segal posted Nov. 7 above a Boston.com article about the ICE raid.
And how exactly does he know they're criminals? They must be ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, right?
The nine detained employees all had work permits, Allston Car Wash Manager Jose Barrera told Boston.com.

Barrera said around 22 federal agents arrived at the Cambridge Street car wash holding subpoenas, but agents began arresting employees before they could retrieve their documents from the locker room, Barrera told Boston.com.

Discussing his treatment while in detention, Mr Hamdi said he noticed a distinct change when news outlets like Sky News became aware of his case.

"They throw you in a cell, you sleep in the foot cuffs. They kept me there with 24 hours until my legs were swollen. When I told the guards, 'Look, my legs are swollen, visibly swollen', the guards simply ignored it.

"They only started treating me better when everybody at Sky News and the other media started raising their voices."

Deported to where? To here?

Native American nearly deported after Polk County jail issues ICE detainer by mistake
A day before Arizona native Leticia Jacobo was scheduled to be released from an Iowa jail, her mom visited to verify pickup details with the staff. Ericka Burns was excited to drive her daughter home after spending a month apart and wanted to make sure Jacobo wasn’t forced to wait a minute longer than necessary.

But jail staff told Burns that Jacobo wouldn’t be let go because she would be turned over to immigration agents — even though Jacobo is Native American.

The 24-year-old was born in Phoenix and is a member of Arizona’s Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. She was booked into the Polk County Jail in Des Moines, where she currently lives, in September for allegedly driving with a suspended license. Jacobo was scheduled to be released on Nov. 11, but what should have been a routine process was complicated and delayed by an erroneously issued ICE detainer. She was ultimately allowed to leave just before 4:30 a.m. Nov. 12.

Detainees were forced to share an open toilet, Hamdi said. “You can smell it across the whole cell… honestly, I could not believe it was America,” he said.

Hamdi faced a single allegation of overstaying his visa, which had been revoked without his knowledge days prior to his detention.

The Fall and Rise of Il Tizio dei Panini

The jurors in the case of The United States of America v. The Sandwich Guy (as Sean Charles Dunn is better known) sized one another up before the final group had even been selected, asking, “Did you attend the ‘No Kings’ march?”

“It’s like, You’re damn right I went,” one juror told me, referring to the anti-Trump protests throughout the country last month, including in Washington, D.C. (The juror, who spoke with me several days after she and 11 of her peers found Dunn not guilty of assault, did so anonymously because, as she explained, Donald Trump’s administration is “very vengeful,” and she fears retribution.)

ICE agent arrested for pulling gun on Southern California teen, lawyer says

“I think right now a lot of Mexican Americans, whether they are in a situation like this or not, who are angry upset and scared and this just really came close to home for them,” Kirakosian said when asked how the family was doing after the harrowing ordeal.

The L.A.-based civil rights attorney added that he believes the 45-year-old has become emboldened by what he does and sees other ICE agents doing on a day-to-day basis.

“It’s gotten so bad where he thinks he can now turn his own block into his personal ICE checkpoint,” Kirakosian said. “I don’t know how much worse the situation is going to get, honestly. This kid could’ve been shot.”
ICE are apparently denying that he works for the, but he certainly seems to have told the boy, truthfully or not, that he was an ICE agent when he pulled a gun on him and tried to interrogate him.

An interesting way to end public education: Send ICE into them to scare the students away.

Nearly 21,000 students in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools were absent on Monday, according to officials.

Officials with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools said on Monday, Nov. 17, that approximately 20,935 students across the 185 schools were absent, which is 15% of students enrolled.
Border Patrol agents were seen in Charlotte over the past few days as part of their immigration operation “Charlotte’s Web.”

During the first two days of the operation on Saturday, Nov. 15, and Sunday, Nov. 16, 130 people had been arrested, including a “record-breaking” 81 arrests on Saturday.

ICE employee among 16 men arrested in Bloomington sex trafficking sting, police say
According to Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges, officers started the three-day sting on Nov. 5. They used several methods to find people who were attempting to solicit a 17-year-old girl for sex.

In all, police arrested 16 men during the investigation, which Hodges called "Operation Creep."

Hodges said most of the men came from within the Twin Cities area.

One of the men, he said, is an employee for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, who could face federal charges. Hodges said the ICE employee works as an auditor.
"When he was arrested, he said, 'I'm ICE, boys,'" Hodges said during a press conference Tuesday. "Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up."
I have no doubt that this ICEr (and very likely others) joined ICE to use it for get out of jail free purposes. Expect more local news like this in the months to come.

ICE Says Critical Evidence In Abuse Case Was Lost In 'System Crash' a Day After It Was Sued

The federal government claims that the day after it was sued for allegedly abusing detainees at an ICE detention center, a “system crash” deleted nearly two weeks of surveillance footage from inside the facility.

People detained at ICE’s Broadview Detention Center in suburban Chicago sued the government on October 30; according to their lawyers and the government, nearly two weeks of footage that could show how they were treated was lost in a “system crash” that happened on October 31.

“The government has said that the data for that period was lost in a system crash apparently on the day after the lawsuit was filed,” Alec Solotorovsky, one of the lawyers representing people detained at the facility, said in a hearing about the footage on Thursday that 404 Media attended via phone. “That period we think is going to be critical […] because that’s the period right before the lawsuit was filed.”

Wow, that is convenient. Let's review the footage prior to that two weeks, and the footage since the crash.
