I'm wondering how accurate this is:

I haven’t been to the border between Canada and the US in almost 20 years, but I struggle to think that it’s become more relaxed and chilled out since then. Back when I crossed it every so often, so let’s say from about the mid-80s until 2005, that border was not dissimilar to the border between North and South Korea. I’m sure that sounds like an exaggeration to a lot of you, but I swear to you it is not. It is militarised and carefully guarded and crossing it, either way, is massive pain in the balls. Border guards on both sides are like how I always imagined the East German police to have been. Everyone is treated with maximum suspicion. The Canadians are paranoid that drugs and guns are flowing over their border, and the Americans, well, I never really worked out what they were so scared of.

This writer and I lived in alternate realities. Up until 9/11 I was late night crossing for beer after work and in the 1980s-1990s carloads of us would go to Bellingham to the arcade in the mall or a movie. All it took was a driver’s license and often they only asked the driver. Once in awile we would be faced with some brushcut with no neck but it wasn’t clear if he hated Canadians, kids, foreigners in general, or people. Post9/11 it became more formalized with a range of friendly “chatdowns” to grouches in the booth. Procedure appeared to be of more importance since.

Going form Washington to BC was never that hardcore, either at the ferry or at land crossings. But it's been a while since I have crossed the border.
There we have it from an American and a Canadian. Though both of us probably have a seeming of straight lace.

Yeah. I would remove the handcuffs from my bondage belt and leave them at home with my pipe. But concerts often had tighter screening.

Khamon has only flown to Canada once with a couple of British and HK stamps in my passport at the time. The other Khamon also had visited China, the Netherlands, Russia, and Ukraine. The agent flipped through their passport a few times then looked up and calmly asked "what, exactly, do you do for a living?" Our traveling companion began to panic and say "we're not getting in...they're gonna send us home" and I was like shh stop talking go pee stop. The agent let us pass and a good time was had by all.

edit: oh and Macao, that's a fun place, I got so lost, it's a long story involving fans and tunnel.

Look, I know we can't bring charges against DHS members who are responsible for these abuses, but shouldn't we be documenting this and drafting preliminary charging documents against agents for when a responsible government is in place? That could at least act as a check against the worst of these abuses if people know they will be held accountable.

It was as the dealer slid Khamon's baccarat winnings across the table that the pit boss appeared silently at his elbow. "Mr. Khamon, I'm very sorry, but it is time to go." That was when Khamon heard the sound of the hundreds of his adoring fans who had burst through the casino doors in rabid search of their idol. It took them mere moments to overwhelm the security guards. Clearly, Khamonmania had reached Macao. Damned internet! Flipping the dealer a 100,000 HK$ chip, Khamon arose and simply asked, "Which way?"

"This way, sir. I will carry your harp. Quickly, please." A hidden panel slid open in the wall behind the dealer ....

Today one of my co-workers suggested we could visit some Murican colleague at their university - the panic in the eyes of my boss while he was desperately trying to word a polite recommendation not to... PRICELESS!
