Trump campaigned on shutting down the Department of Ed, so this topic has been discussed for the past year and more. Special Ed is just one piece of the Education pie he is attacking.
As someone who had their life near ruined by student loans and someone fucking up badly at the Dept of Ed - I'm not a big fan, but I think they need an overhaul - not being abolished.

A lot of extremist logic in general is that they think it's easier to burn it all down than to fix something. This thought process appeals to people who aren't too bright and don't like to think about all those annoying details that make their plans wrong.

I do think it's significant that they started with special ed and not say student loans. Awhile ago, I read about a Trump family member with a special needs child who went to talk to Trump about his attitudes toward the disabled and Trump said it would probably be better if the kid died.

Although, the Washington Post is also successfully destroying the paper to silence opposition to the GOP, so above post is mildly surprising. Maybe they can feel the tide is turning.

The Forbes writer delivers an article just as blandly superficial as one can expect from journalists bowing the knee to an authoritarian government.

The Washington Post has hemorrhaged readership because it stopped meaningful reporting on the Trump administration. It was THE political news of the country and it lost the trust of its readers, so they don't buy it anymore. Apparently Forbes is going down that same road.

Reuters: Data darkness in US spreads a global shadow

The U.S. government shutdown that has turned off the official flow of data could begin clouding the view for policymakers in Japan and other countries where insight into the fortunes of the world's biggest economy informs the outlook for their own currencies, trade performance and inflation.

What happens in America, in other words, doesn't stay in America, and global officials say being left data-blind by the shutdown over time could complicate their own policymaking and boost the risk of a mistake at a moment when countries are already adjusting to the Trump administration's efforts to remake global trade.

The sequel will probably be better.

Bezos bought WAPO without researching its market or financials. He bought it "without due diligence." He didn't buy it to earn money. He bought it to control it and brandish it for influence. He bought it to report favorably on his enterprises and his policy. He bought it because the prestige of owning it only cost him 0.25% of his wealth at the time.

He can afford to run it into the ground, and that's preferable to having it cross his financial or political interests.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos signed the $250 million Washington Post deal with no due diligence

He had no reason to care about it's financials or market. He was just buying a mouth piece. ....small wonder the readers jumped ship after.
