Yeah.... Your average facebook right winger believes literally any claim they see in a meme with no critical thought. On the subject of gun violence. there was a well circulated meme claiming the USA's huge gun problem would go away if we just got rid of LA, Chicago, NYC and one other city I think. This obviously doesn't survive any level of fact checking on the math but people believed it.... I saw people cite it in various places as fact.

...though in fairness, I've seen a few left wing memes also trick people. One meme claimed education in Finland was so good because they pay teachers like doctors, which isn't true. Another claimed Medieval peasants had a lot more days off than modern workers, which is also hilarious since farm work never stops. ...especially in those days.

Often they are simply repeating lines that have already been circulating, filtering outward from nodes – Trump and RFK Jr especially – in the conspiracist network. Some claims act as loyalty oaths (affirmations that the 2020 election was stolen), but more are just deranged and bizarre, not to mention sick, such as the claim that DEI hiring policies were responsible for the fires that devastated Los Angeles in January, and the fatal aircraft collision that killed 67 people that same month. Taken as judgments or explanations, they raise questions about the cognitive faculties of the speaker, but perhaps they are better seen as memes. The individuals might sound stupid, but they are not the architects of a media sphere in which causal explanation has been sacrificed for symbolic mimicry, to fill time and generate content.

FBI chief Kash Patel says he won't partner with Anti-Defamation League over Comey link

FBI Director Kash Patel announced he is ending the bureau's partnership with the Anti-Defamation League, saying he disliked former FBI Director James Comey's approving comments about the Jewish advocacy group.

"James Comey wrote 'love letters' to the ADL and embedded FBI agents with them," Patel alleged in the Oct. 1 post on X. He accused the organization of spying on Americans, without providing specific details.

What's missing in this piece (not sure why...) is that Patel called the ADL “an extreme group functioning like a terrorist organization.”

Whoever wrote Trump’s speech also included an extremely weird reference to “11,488 murders” being supposedly committed by undocumented immigrants — a seemingly made-up statistic whose source no one can find, but that happens to include a well-known pro-Hitler meme. Given that Trump seems to be easily fooled by AI slop and old videos, it is not clear if he had any idea what he was saying. But someone knew what they were doing.

Given the implications of his Deus Vult tattoo, which apparently gave the National Guard cause for concern when President Biden was inaugurated, it's very unlikely the British Army would have him. Tattoos are generally permitted so long as they wouldn't be visible on a passport photo, but obscene, racist or extremist tattoos are out.
