Speaking of, Car and Driver just announced its 2024 electric vehicle of the year and it's not the Cybertruck. According to a short note in the article,

And before any Tesla loyalists complain that we aren't giving the Cybertruck its due, know that the one we rented broke on the second day, effectively parking itself with just a few hundred miles on its odometer. A DNF results in a mission-fulfillment score of zero.

I remember finding it baffling that my Dodge was made in Mexico while my Subaru was made in Illinois.

Corvettes are made in Bowling Green, KY. Some Toyota engines are made in Huntsville, Alabama and Honda makes a lot of trucks in some other city there as well. Freightliner semi-truck parts are made in the US and then shipped to Mexico for assembly. I think Kenmore truck parts are made in Mexico and then shipped to Seattle for assembly. It all can leave one a bit puzzled!

Here's a map of US auto manufacturing plants.

(In other news, human sacrifice, dogs and cats sleeping together, mass hysteria.)

Honda doesn't just assemble cars in Ohio. There is a test track/R&D facility here. They are major supporters of the College of Engineering at OSU, and a lot of our students intern there.

A certain political party keeps telling us they will "bring back" US auto manufacturing. Yet, eyeball estimate says we're making about 10,000,000 cars a year.

Huh. That's weird.

Honda is also why the north end of Columbus has a lot of good Asian food. The executives tend to live between Marysville and Dublin so there are restaurants and grocers that cater to them.

That kind of irked me with my old job. We'd frequently travel to Japan while the Japanese engineers and execs would frequently come here.
When we traveled there, we'd dive into all kinds of Japanese food.
When they traveled here, they practically demanded only Japanese food.
I'll admit, I've had my share of MOSBurger, but show some adventure guys!

I've heard horror stories from friends/co-workers who went to India and had trouble adjusting to the food. I wonder if the U.S. is sort of like that to people visiting from Japan.

American food tastes super bizarre with all the corn syrup in things, and that’s coming from a Canadian with a very similar menu.

True... I know they asians in general seem particularly repulsed by Root Beer especially. =D

Like how we associate mint with toothpaste, I guess they associate root beer with medicine. =)

A few weeks ago there was a video by a YouTuber where he basically abuses the Cybertruck and an F-150 in every way he can imagine as a durability test. At one point he tried to use the CT to tow the F-150 off some pipes with a chain, and with a single solid jar the hitch - with bumper attached - got yanked right off the back of the CT. Examination showed that the rear portion of the frame itself, being made of extremely thin aluminum, actually snapped off at the back of the truck. The video has gotten a lot of views and you can watch it if you want, but it's 20 minutes long and that's only one moment so it might not be worth your time.

But as you can likely guess, excuses immediately flooded in from the sycophants, complaining that an incident early on in the video where the back of the Cybertruck drops a few inches onto the top of a short concrete wall weakened the frame and if that had happened to the F-150 or any other truck, its frame would also have snapped in exactly the same way.

So a couple of days ago the YouTuber made another video where....well, this video is only 8 minutes long, so you can probably watch it:

Cybertruck hits fire hydrant, catches on fire

Witnesses say that while the flames and gasses are not visible, the smell of the battery is strongly penetrating the air in the area.

First responders say they thought they had extinguished the flames coming from the Cybertruck, but shortly after stopping the water flow onto the battery, the fire began again.

Oh come on. Hopefully thieves don't hear about this... :kittyball:

You Can Just Peel Open A Cybertruck Like An Orange
Tesla and its fans like to talk about how safe and impenetrable the Cybertruck is, but one cunning burglar proved them all wrong. He was able to pop one of the windows ajar and then peel the “shatter-proof glass” wide open. Despite this unauthorized breach, the Cybertruck never alerted the owner of the break-in.

“No Alarm, No Notifications to my phone… literally nothing happened just found it like this…..” Cybertruck owner Anuj Thakker posted to the Tesla CyberTruck Facebook page. He also posted footage from one of the Cybertruck’s cameras showing a guy pulled up in a red Nissan Altima. The thief gets out of the passenger door, pops the window open a crack and then peels it down. From there, he jumps through the window and pulls out a backpack. Then, he gets back in the Nissan and drives away.

Well, American cars are always best when not manufactured in America... so no wonder.
Well Govi, just have a look at Tesla enthusiats: it's consensus between them that Teslas (same model) built in China are of noticeably better build than their cousins coming from America.

Same goes for Ford cars made in America vs. Germany, though there are not many models shared between those markets.

I love how 'goof' is a prison term for pedophile. Appropriate for the guy who made it okay to call people pedos without consequence.
