You can't even get them off the lot before they go up in flames.
Of course, one feels sad for the owners of these vehicles, but it becomes more and more clear that Musk's attitude of ship-it-and-fix-the-problems-later has endangered all of Tesla's customers. Musk is ruining Tesla's reputation by enabling defective vehicles to be made and sold.

This is horrifying.

The video shows a Cybertruck driving down a straight country road with the driver assistance feature activated, when an SUV approaches it from the opposite direction. At the very last second, the Cybertruck attempts to turn left into what appears to be a driveway, forcing the driver to seize control and intervene.

"Oh god, Jesus!" the driver exclaims, yanking the steering yoke to the right to narrowly avoid a frontal collision. A closeup of the Cybertruck's dash display shows that Tesla's Full Self-Driving software indeed intended to cross the other lane, seemingly ignoring the oncoming vehicle — which the software does register — completely.

Potentially "just" a software issue.

Some Tesla owners have yet another thing to worry about. As sales crash in Europe and protests gather outside Tesla showrooms in the US as a result of the CEO's political engagement, it now emerges that more than 376,000 Model Y crossovers and Model 3 sedans are at risk for power steering failure. So far, it has resulted in more than 3,000 warranty claims and caused 570 crashes, according to Tesla and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Federal investigators have known about the problem for some time—in 2023 NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation opened a preliminary inquiry after 12 reports of steering failures, including three Model 3s and nine Model Ys.

This sounds...not good.

The Cybertruck is designed with a nine-foot piece of boomerang-shaped window trim on each side. In a typical car, similar bits of body panels are held in place by bolts or else welded to the frame. But the Cybertruck is not a typical car, as one Michigan driver found out the hard way.

While driving at highway speeds, the glue holding that piece of frame failed, causing it to rip off.

"I ran a quick errand tonight," the driver complained in a post on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, "and while merging and accelerating on the interstate in normal traffic, at about 70 mph, I heard a loud ripping sound and the metal panel liberates and flew into traffic behind me."
The Michigan driver is far from the only one. Car enthusiast publication Road & Track found multiple cases where that exact panel has peeled off its adhesive, on top of other body panels and the tailgate.

Video displaying why panels are flying off Cybertrucks.

This is just God awful production quality control. How could this have been allowed out of the factory unless they just don't give a shit?

8 recalls. 8. What a fantastic vehicle.

U.S. safety regulators on Thursday recalled virtually all Cybertrucks on the road, the eighth recall of the Tesla-made vehicles since deliveries to customers began just over a year ago.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recall, which covers more than 46,000 Cybertrucks, warned that an exterior panel that runs along the left and right side of the windshield can detach while driving, creating a dangerous road hazard for other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

The stainless steel strip, called a cant rail assembly, between the windshield and the roof on both sides, is bound to the truck’s assembly with a structural adhesive, the NHTSA report said. The remedy uses an adhesive that’s not been found to be vulnerable to “environmental embrittlement,” the NHTSA said, and includes additional reinforcements.

I have to guess that some ill-conceived cost-cutting was done here: saving a few bucks by using a cheap "substitute" for expensive Air Force grade adhesives that would do the job properly without so much danger to life and limb. And doing no effective testing on the cheap adhesive's application.

Ouch.

Tesla (TSLA) has to replace the ‘self-driving’ computer inside about 4 million vehicles or likely compensate the owners of those vehicles.

The liability could be more significant than the largest automotive recall in terms of cost.
Tesla (well, Musk) officially claimed back in 2016 that Tesla vehicles had “all the hardware necessary for full self-driving capability.” This meant a Tesla owner could expect at some point in the "near" future to receive a software update with "level 4 or 5" or unsupervised autonomous driving capabilities. This never happened, and these hardware and computer systems are now effectively - and admittedly - out of date. Even vehicles on more recent hardware, as late as 2023 models, are in the same boat.

These are not the robotaxi names you're looking for.

Tesla’s attempt to trademark the term “Robotaxi” in reference to its vehicles has been refused by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for being too generic, according to a new filing. Another application by Tesla to trademark the term “Robotaxi” for its upcoming ride-hailing service is still under examination by the office.

In addition, applications from Tesla for the trademark on the term “Cybercab” have been halted due to other companies pursuing similar “Cyber” trademarks. That includes one company that has applied for numerous trademarks related to aftermarket Cybertruck accessories.

This is plain illegal. And amazingly bad auto repair work.

Jay, a Cybertruck owner from Oregon, recently took his Cybertruck in for a minor service visit. However, he was surprised to discover that his odometer reading had been reset to zero.

Jay says he bought his Foundation Series Cybertruck 5 months ago, and he has already put over 26,000 miles on it.

However, after a recent visit to the Tesla service center, his odometer now shows zero miles.

Makes one wonder how many took the "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" approach when they found their odometer zeroed out.

It makes the mileage of a used unit rather questionable. Gosh and golly, I hope this doesn't hurt the resale value of those turds on wheels vehicles.

There's also the problem of vehicle repair histories, which marks mileage as part of the reporting in part to validate against odometer tampering.
