Can anybody explain this? I couldn't find the original video in a hurry but skip to 0:40 in this Warthog Defense compilation to see:

From what I udnerstand, this is an official video published by the Russian authorities and intended for the international, not the domestic, audience. Let's for the sake of argument ignore the claims and the facts and factoids here and focus on the overall impression the video gives.

Somebody fairly high up in the Kremlin hiearchy must have decided this was a good message to send to the world. Why did they do that?

If the purpose was to justify Russia's actions and gain some international support, they could hardly done a worse job. I actually thought it was a deep fake at first but apparently it is genuine which means that whoever are responsible for making and publishing the video either suffer from terminally poor judgement or are deliberately trying to sabotage Russia's war efforts from the inside.

Edit: Btw, is Putin really drunk here? He's supposed to be a teetotaller after all.

Well, if he did drink a little, and normally doesn't, would explain the drunk - I need to watch the video though and right now spouse is in a meeting.

Polands chief of police, Jarosław Szymczyk, got a gift from an Ukranian official. It later exploded in his hands, leaving him in hospital with minor injuries. Now Poland demands an explanation and excuse from Ukraine.

'A Ukranian official' ?, more likely an FSB imposter I suspect.

Or a piece of spent ammunition that had still left some explosive residue on it.
Why would you post a piece of spent ammunition to someone in another country ? You could get them into all sorts of trouble with customs or their own authorities. Maybe it came from Russia purporting to be from someone in Ukraine, in an attempt to damage Ukraine/Poland relations.

I remember doing a museum collection inventory that included confirming the Civil War era munitions had all the fuses removed and black powder removed. Fortunately all of them were safe, but we did have a black powder revolver from an archaeological site that was loaded, rusted, and encrusted with hardened mud.

It doesn't seem THAT mysterious ....

You'd think that a "top cop" would know better than to play around with a gun and also to have checked if it is unloaded. Also makes one think no one checked it before it was given to the "ukrane official" nor checked before it was handed over to the "top cop". It all sounds rather alec baldwinish.

I suspect he realized it was the "same size" as what the police use, got hold of a round, loaded it and being a bit unfamiliar with it, set it off by mistake and just is trying to save face and not appear to be incompetent. (Police tend to use 37mm rounds while military tends to use 40mm)

I suppose at that level there is just a natural assumption that somebody else had taken care of the balmy thing and safed it within the chain of custody. He's probably got the training somewhere along the line to do it himself but being a manager now a days and not a technician he wouldn't expect he'd have to.

He received it during a working visit to Ukraine, according to the article.

Here is how the Ukrainian government put all important data into the Amazon cloud, just in case. They've been using Snowball Edge data storage units by Amazon, which is basically HDDs in safe transport boxes being transported by airplanes and cars.

Reading the article to the end, it states that other governments, primarily in Eastern Asia, have also expressed a keen interest in the service. One of them is pretty obvious, but I wonder who else has been interested?
