My main argument why negotiations are impossible at the moment will not become less valid if negotiations attempts are done by/via proxys.

Negotiations are only possible, if there is something which can be put at the table, which currently is not the case. They could come into reach if the west would cut down support for Ukraine, which will not happen. Or if Russia has a change of mind, which is only likely to happen if Putin is not president any longer. So the war will continue for some while, as long as both sides are motivated to do so and also able to do so.

But there are still and always side issues still needing attention, such as humanitarian aid, lines drawn, keeping other, unrelated processes running smoothly, and preventing random events from turning into global thermo-nuclear war. I understand some people wish to prevent that from happening, such as Airstrip One and anyone living in the fulda gap, wherever the hell THAT is.

EDIT: While negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are stalled, there's still things to talk about vis NATO, Russia, and China. Even then, trial balloons and de-escalation attempts can still be passed back and forth.

What I feared and expected, unfortunately. At least the National Socialists wore designer uniforms and had some sense of style.

What must it be like to live where stuff like this just happens right over your house, your literal actual house that you and your family live in

I know this isn't just a Ukraine problem of course; there are so many places in the world where people have to endure this kind of thing, and then we punish them with hatred and persecution if they ever try to, like, remove their family from that situation and go somewhere that stuff isn't happening.

Ah yes, I remember the days of my youth when people would regularly go deep in the woods, beat themselves vigorously, tie their hands behind their backs, hang themselves, then shoot themselves in the head a few times. The local police were always mystified by the number of out of town people who would come to our woods to commit suicide in such a uniform fashion each year. They were quite sure however it had nothing to do with the drug artery moving through the county, or the massive levels of corruption on the force.

A new episode of Fake News it out, topic is "The mobilization desaster." Some interesting footage about how bad the Russian army is organized, and some propagandists have had enough of bullshit telling the illegal drafted soldiers that they should stop lying to the public, and tell what's going on.

Here it is on Youtube, where you can enable English subtitles for all audio:

Here it is on arte.tv, where you can listen to the original English audio track (which you have to enable), but Russian tv snippets will have no subbing/dubbing:

Russia is using war of attrition tactics to destroy the morale of the Ukrainian population by attacking power lines and its infrastructure. Which is an evil and effective thing to do when winter is around the corner...

Ukraine’s power grid destroyed on ‘colossal’ scale after Russian strikes
The head of Ukraine’s national power grid operator, Ukrenergo, has described the damage dealt to Ukrainian power-generating facilities by Russian missile attacks as “colossal”.

Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the chief executive officer of Ukrenergo, told a briefing that practically no thermal or hydroelectric stations had been left unscathed by the Russian attacks.

Kudrytskyi said: The scale of destruction is colossal. In Ukraine there is a power generation deficit. We cannot generate as much energy as consumers can use.
He said Ukrainians could face long power outages but that his company wanted to help provide the conditions for people to stay in the country through winter.

Viktor Orban, prime minister of Hungary, has annected on his football scarf worn during a football match parts of Ukraine and Poland. Ukraine demanded an apology, and Poland is equally pissed.

Sorry, no etymologies found.
Well, that's not very helpful. hehe.
Haven't found something that acutally says that it's a version of annex, but everything but for that one barely there definition assumed I asked for a definition fo annex instead of annect.

At the beginning of the 20th century Ukrainian lands were part of the Austro-Hungarian (Galicia, Transcarpathia, Bukovina) and Russian (the nine right-bank and left-bank provinces) Empires.
So, why didn't this dude have Austria on his ittle map thingie? You know, for "Greater Hungry" aka Austro-Hungarian Empire?

Was going to say that myself - before 1900 [iirc] Hungary being actually oppressed by Austria, until like ,... well, not too long before the events that caused WWI - he's not just a schmuck but a fascist one. :p

It's now over one year that Merkel officially stepped down as chancellor. She is not a member of the parliament any longer, and even refused to become honorary chairman of her party.

So whatever she says is her private opinion, which does not matter any longer because she has no political power left to wield.
