Friendly reminder Americans outnumber Canadians 10 to 1 and your emotional support Canadian is getting dog-piled right now.
All I ask for is a regular infusion of your tasty maple syrup.

I've tried distancing myself from the political chaos by turning off the TV earlier at night and refusing to let the rampant negativity cut through my defenses. I don't even have blood pressure problems but the whole subject is very stressful to me. This is about my two daughters as well as my son. I see what my own offspring are doing and saying and it gives me so much hope!

I don't know if it's working. Every time I try to visualize the Day After, all I can see is women in large groups yelling at the capitol steps. Like it's some kind of reverse Jan. 6. And all around them on the ground are red floor-length robes and pious little hats. Yes I dream in symbols :D

I'm going to do what I did four years ago, unplug for the day. My phone will undoubtedly push a notification when the race is called, so I'll find out then. My nerves just can't deal with the slow count-up and the drama and the back-and-forthing and the commentary, so I will just hide and shut them all out.

If it's good news, and I'm still awake when it's called, I'll come here and cheer with whoever else is up! Otherwise, I'll be coping silently.

Mrs. Beebo and I are setting out a spread of munchables and planning for a long night. There's a bottle of chilled sparkling cider that we will open at some point, although it may not be Wednesday morning.

My wife is on a ledge looking down at the chasm, but I'm feeling good about the outcome. I've been listening to bronxelf and Sal, and what they say makes sense to me. Can't account for sudden extreme black swans, but based on what we know now, Harris will win. As a country, we don't do landslides anymore, but I believe it will be a decisive win.

I may or may not dip my toe into the coverage.

I do know that once the winner is announced my neighborhood will erupt in cheers or outrage loudly enough that I'll know. Whether I want to or not.

Thinking about what's to come.

Right now, this is very heavy on my brain:

Our transgender folk. I'm seriously worried for them.

Health care. My health care, and everyone else's. What is going to happen with that?

The country as a whole. Oh sure, "we've been here before," but I fear we haven't seen a before quite like this one will become. What happens as Trump is allowed to run roughshod over the Constitution and the delicate impediments to executive overreach? People who can now be swept aside by his personal vendettas? I don't see his next team providing a buffer to his maliciousness.

And we're a fully nativist country now. America is for Americans Only (whatever the fuck that means).

There's a lot more on my mind. Like the Ukraine. Oh hey, the economy! But I'm not fully coherent right now. Maybe after the weekend...

Whether you agree with all the points he makes or not, reading this may help, even if to just use as a trampoline for some of your own thoughts.

Trump won yesterday, as I feared he would. I firmly believe America — and likely the world — will get significantly worse for at least a generation, probably more. I’ll spare you, for now, the why. Frankly, I think you either already accept it or will never accept it. The things I care about, like the rule of law and equality before it, freedom of religion, freedom of speech, free trade in service of free people, relative prosperity, protection of the weak from the strong, truth, and human dignity are all going to suffer. Bullies and their sycophants and apologists will thrive.
What should we do?
I have a few thoughts.
