There is a not-insignificant subset of Republicans who, when asked, said a felony conviction would be a bridge too far for them. I don't see Trump getting elected.
Well, that means these people already have rationalized all of Trump's past wrongdoings: the result of the E Jean Carroll trial, the January 6th insurrection and the thousands of people killed due to Trump's incompetent and malicious response to the pandemic.

I wouldn't be surprised if they moved their collective goalpost again.

:qft:

This is exactly what is scaring the hell out of me about the US right now. It's like these people are living in their own little bubble of reality, which would be ok, if they didn't own so many automatic weapons and weren't so willing to actually KILL for it.

Higher courts will save him because he stacked them (especially the Supreme Court) with people that love him. They will find some silly procedural reason to throw out the conviction and MAGA will act like that proves he's innocent.
They would have to find a Federal issue, and the Federal courts already rejected his motions to move the trial out of State Court so they can't take jusrisdiction back now. State of New York is not going to bail him out.

Of course the State of New York isn't going to bail him out. I meant higher courts might.

There is a limited range of issues that Federal courts can use to overturn a conviction in State court.

Is it even certain that he will get jail time as a first time offender?
