For about five years U.S. Drug Enforcement officer and Nassau county sheriff’s deputy James Darrell Hickox used his position with law enforcement to moonlight as a drug dealer. He once even stole cocaine from an evidence locker and replaced it with a 3D printed brick. His various schemes didn’t work out and now he’s been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Hickox was arrested in 2023 and pleaded guilty to the various charges against him in 2024. He ran his drug dealing game while employed as a deputy for the Nassau County Sheriff’s department in Florida and as a DEA agent. He pleaded guilty to charges of stealing drugs and money, transferring drugs to dealers for sale on the street, and tax evasion. He made more than $420,000 as a drug dealer and the IRS was upset it didn’t get its cut.

Trump Jr can be seen shooting ducks from a foxhole in a lagoon in the video from Field Ethos, an outdoor lifestyle publication he co-founded. In one clip, he points at a distinctive rusty orange duck among the bodies of half a dozen waterfowl.

“This is actually a rather uncommon duck for the area,” he says. “Not even sure what it is in English, but incredible shoot.”

The ruddy shelduck, known in India as the Brahminy duck, is a migratory bird that winters in south Asia and breeds in south-east Europe. Its global conservation status is not under threat but environmentalists have raised concerns about its future as climate breakdown shifts its breeding range.

Zanoni said killing the protected bird was a crime and questioned Trump Jr’s right to hunt in Italy as a non-resident.

Massimo Buconi, the president of the Italian Hunting Federation, pushed back on the claim that foreigners were not able to hunt in Italy but said the law would have indeed been broken if the bird in the video was confirmed as a ruddy shelduck.

“At a glance it looks like a ruddy shelduck,” he said. “I don’t know if it’s protected in America, but in Europe, and in Italy, it is protected. You cannot hunt it.”

A girls’ football match ended in tears after a player with short hair was accused of being a boy by the rival team.

The all-girls York Railway Institute AFC team was playing in October last year when an 11-year-old, who has a short haircut, scored a goal.

The opposing team’s coach and parents on the sideline questioned Flo Topham’s gender, her coach said, asking if a boy had been brought on and requested to see her registration.

The under-12s game was stopped as a result of the dispute, leaving the girls on the team, who were already “anxious” due to similar incidents in the past, devastated, Adam Cooper, the team’s assistant coach, said. “When Flo was brought on, she scored straight away. The comment from the coach was that we had brought a boy on, and he continued to call her a he.”

In a crisp surveillance image, the 15-year-old stands alone in a hoodie and shorts, eyes cast down on a Brooklyn street. “The pictured individual,” police declared in an accompanying caption, had “discharged a firearm” at the West Indian American Day parade, killing one person and wounding four others.

“I see the NYPD logo. I see me. I see ‘suspect wanted for murder,’” Lee recalled. “I couldn’t believe what was happening. Then everything went blurry.”

So before the internet my parents and most of the adults in my life maintained 'Americans are stupid', based solely on prejudices of the 'other'. Then I got on the internet, met a lot of pretty great Americans, smart people, usually saw things a little differently but not enough to really worry about it. 911 happened, and then, Freedom Fries. No problem, there are dumbasses everywhere, every village has idiots.

We have gone completely freaking bananas here. People who don't believe viruses are real are in charge of federal health policy. People who think wildfires and hurricanes come from Jews with secret weather machines, are dismantling federal disaster and weather forecasting services. People who think industrial waste being dumped into rivers doesn't actually hurt anyone "because the water washes it away", are in charge of environmental policy. And they didn't like, lie their way into power, they were voted into power because they promised to destroy those things, because the majority of our electorate now actively hates knowledge and science, and thinks cynicism and cruelty are the new virtue and actually caring about anything is stupid and weak.

If I was visiting a foreign country right now, and was in a situation where I could easily get away with the lie, I'd tell someone who asked that I was Canadian.
