Overall firearm-related deaths increased 13.5% between 2019 and 2020, but such fatalities for those 1 to 19 years old jumped nearly 30%, according to a research letter in New England Journal of Medicine.

Researchers analyzed data collected by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing that there were a record 45,222 firearm-related deaths in the U.S. in 2020.

Patrick Carter, one of the authors of the research letter and co-director of the University of Michigan's Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention, said about 10% of those deaths — 4,357 in total — were children.

I suppose tomorrow we'll have the NRA announce that we need to be arming our children to defend against this new threat. Pair that with a general republican announcement that restrictive gun control laws have lead us to these record firearm child death numbers...

Obviously the only solution is to dump more military weapons on cops, then have them posted in every school hallway to preemptively open fire.

The real people that are losing out in the cost-of-living crisis are apparently landlords who are missing out on rent because people are rooming together too much. So this town has come up with a bold solution!


The law bans groups of four or more unrelated people living together in a house or apartment. It then goes on to elaborate that if any one of the adults in the residence is unrelated to the others, the entire group is considered "unrelated" for the purposes of compliance.

It looks like something from the third reich - well, that was my immediate thought. And looking at the stripped classical link all I can think is "ugly ... ugly". Way worse than brutalism.

I actually kinda like brutalism, it has a naive 60's - 70's utopian charm to it, the city of cassette futurism with monorails and elevated walkways where we will all wear gray v-neck bodysuits and debate French philosophy while listening to folk rock electronica and we can walk from the city center to the neighborhood farm to pick our own produce kind of vibe. And everyone has a copy of the Whole Earth catalog and at least one or two Ursula LeGuinn novels.

I'm not entirely sure they do. It sounds like the kind of thing that will end up being challenged in court, assuming anyone ever finds themselves in a situation where they're being penalized for having a living arrangement like this.

An woman charged with illegal voting for casting her dead mother’s mail ballot in Arizona the November 2020 election has avoided jail time but will serve two years probation.

A judge in Phoenix on Friday sentenced a woman to two years of felony probation, fines and community service for voting her dead mother’s ballot in Arizona in the 2020 general election.

But the judge rejected a prosecutor’s request that she serve at least 30 days in jail because she lied to investigators and demanded that they hold those committing voter fraud accountable.

Of course she's a Republican.
