Most of us remember the giant thread on SLU about Gamergate. The people who were involved with that are still around. This article is about the overlap between the online alt-right and anti-neurodiversity trolls taking aim at the autistic self-advocacy community.

Unfortunately, money is also involved, and a lot of confusion and gaslighting meant to confuse lay people who don't know the difference between spectrum disorders and other conditions that can co-occur, but aren't part of it.

I pretty much hit the despair button by the time I got to the end of the article and some of its links. This is a long read and the links are also quite involved.

There's a Denny's vs. IHOP discussion going on in the Nobody Cares thread in the Food subforum. But this incident is so fucked up, I felt it belonged here more than there.

I'm fairly certain this has never happened at a Denny's:

Just two organizations were responsible for the majority of anti-vaccine advertisements on Facebook before the social media giant restricted such content in March of this year, according to a November 13 study in the journal Vaccine.

Of 145 anti-vaccine Facebook advertisements that ran between May 31, 2017 and February 22, 2019, the World Mercury Project and a group called Stop Mandatory Vaccination together ran 54% of them.

The World Mercury Project, which ran the most ads of any single source, is an organization closely aligned with the anti-vaccine group Children's Health Defense. Both are spearheaded by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmental lawyer turned prolific peddler of dangerous anti-vaccine misinformation. He and his organizations promote conspiracy theories about vaccine safety, including the roundly debunked claim that safe, life-saving immunizations are linked to autism. More recently, Kennedy has become a prominent opponent of laws aimed at increasing vaccination rates among school children.

Non-British readers may be entertained to know that our current Prime Minister is notoriously unwilling to say how many children he has (the notoriously unfaithful Johnson has four children by his second wife, who is currently divorcing him (not because of his infidelity, it would seem, since she's tolerated it for years) and one illegitimate child whose existence he and the mother tried to keep from public knowledge

There have been persistent rumours of a sixth child, which Johnson refuses either to confirm or deny.

Anyway, now a BBC interviewer tackled him on the subject:

Before the end of his questions-from-listeners session on Radio 5 Live, host Rachel Burden raised the topic of Boris Johnson’s children while discussing education, asking: “None of your children have been to state school, as I understand it?”

Johnson replied: “Sorry, I don’t comment about my children. I’m not going to comment on my children, if that's alright."

Burden said the topic of Johnson’s children is a “question that frequently comes up”.

She told him: “Lots of people have been in touch this morning saying, ‘ask the prime minister how many children he has’. That is a question that frequently comes up, just so you’re aware.

“I think people find it odd that someone who is a public figure can’t answer that question.”

Johnson said: “Your assertion that none of my children have been to state school is wrong. That’s all I’ll say.”

Mustn't prejudge the case, of course, but I think his barrister is going to have a bit of an uphill struggle with a defence like this:

A man who killed his heavily pregnant ex-wife with a crossbow has claimed he was only trying to get her attention when he shot her through the heart.

Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo, 51, armed himself with two crossbows to confront Devi Unmathallegadoo in November 2018 after their marriage had broken down and she had begun a relationship with another man.

In his testimony at the Old Bailey, Mr Unmathallegadoo claimed he had only been carrying the weapons to stop him feeling intimidated by her new partner, Imtiaz Muhammad.

On Monday night, a 79-year-old Maryland man who had made an unspecified "large withdrawal" at his bank earlier that afternoon wound up the victim of a robbery attempt - by the bank teller:

The Harford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 78-year-old man’s home in Bel Air on Monday. Deputies determined he was assaulted and robbed by 19-year-old Nathan Newell in a home invasion.

Sheriff Jeff Gahler has seen a variety of criminal cases during his long law enforcement career, but these circumstances were unusual for him.

"In 34 years in law enforcement, I can't think of another case where it's almost like a reverse bank robbery,” Gahler said.

Investigators believe Newell forced his way inside the victim’s home, but another person inside was able to intervene during the home invasion. Newell would run away before deputies arrived, but he was seen on a doorbell camera, and that helped detectives track him down. He was arrested at work on Thursday. The bank is cooperating in the investigation.

Sorry to quote my own post, but this article, resurrecting a politico-comic novel written by our PM, seems germane to the topic:

I wonder, if Trump were able to write one, what a novel by the very stable genius would be like. Full of all the best words, I am sure.

Full of all the best words. And, if you're lucky, a few of them might actually form complete sentences.

Following Prince Andrew's train-wreck of an interview last night about his relationship with the late Jeffrey Epstein, tonight we in the UK have an interview with Boris Johnson's sometime friend and protege Jennifer Arcuri to look forward to:

It's not denied that the two were close friends for a while when Johnson was Mayor of London, and the suggestion -- now the subject of a police investigation that's been contentiously postponed until after the elections -- is that Johnson used his position to gain her company various grants and advantages (her participation in overseas trade missions, for example) to which she was not entitled.

Addressing Mr Johnson directly, Ms Arcuri told ITV: "I've been nothing but loyal, faithful, supportive, and a true confidante of yours. I've kept your secrets, and I've been your friend.

"And I don't understand why you've blocked me and ignored me as if I was some fleeting one-night stand or some girl that you picked up at a bar because I wasn't - and you know that.

"And I'm terribly heartbroken by the way that you have cast me aside like I am some gremlin."

Mr Johnson has said his dealings with Ms Arcuri were "done with complete propriety".

After losing Virginia and Kentucky, Trump takes his Kiss-of-Death Road Show to Louisiana. And loses again.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards wins re-election in blow to Trump
The Orange Goblin in the White House apparently has no ability to help a Republican win against a Democrat, but he probably can help one Republican against another: i.e., he can successfully help a Republican Congressperson get primaried by a Trump fanatic. Once the primaries are over in a state, I wonder if some of the GOP will find their spines again? Will McConnell and Pelosi time the impeachment trial so that most Republicans are past a fear of being primaried? Oh, I hope so.
