Some of you are reading way more into my post that what was actually there and making assumptions about it that are not true.

At no point did I make any claim that parental rights were the issue. I simply stated that grandparents don't have the same rights as parents. NOT the same thing.

Not once I have made any claims as to whether he was there for perv reasons or if he had a right to be there. NOT ONCE. I have raised 6 children and I am a grandparent.

Sometimes it would be better to just say you don't understand so I can try to explain instead of making assumptions.

Honestly, I am on the verge of completely giving up on ever communicating meaningfully with other people. I fail at it every time no matter who I try to talk with. So, since it is apparently a me problem it might be best if I were to just shut up like I've always been told by my family.

We all have that issue. My well-reasoned statements are not necessarily clear to others so I have to expect some confusion, misinterpretation, and (unfortunately) false assumptions in reply. It would be foolish of me to expect everyone to think exactly like I do and inherently understand what I say exactly as I expect them to. One option is to isolate myself rather than continue the dialog, and with some intentionally adversarial people that's the best policy, but it's not a good long term solution because I'll end up talking to nobody but myself.

I wish someone had said that to my family 60 years ago. It's no fun growing up alone in a family of 5. My brothers refused to play with a girl even if she is their sister. There weren't any girls in my neighborhood so there was never anyone for me to play with especially after my brother made damn sure not even the one boy close to my age wouldn't play with me because female. He (brother) also made certain I would never have school friends as well.

I grew up isolated with no one to talk to but myself. I don't know what to do anymore and I'm exhausted from the lifelong battle.

We may also not agree on an issue, ever, however reasonable both sides may seem. This group is though, in my experience, generally trustworthy to call down a bully that's intentionally antagonizing someone though we do still have a few in the ranks that find it amusing to do so. We try to work with them as well because we're old and want to encourage them to grow the fuck up.

The more of this foolishness I witness, the more I'm convinced that the problem is only partly due to ignorant, non-self aware people. Most of it starts way back in primary school where the focus is often on indoctrination more than actual teaching of facts and principles. Our former President is even a prime example of that - his knowledge about the world at large is woefully stilted, narrow and uninformed. And there are millions like him, topped off with a "elites are taking over" attitude. It became dangerous when their leader had power.

He must never have power again.

The person I was annoyed with was Noodles, not you, for conflating and jumping to the conclusion that the man was there to perv adolescent girls and had no other reason than to be in attendence. It's an innocent mistake on her part, but is also something that gets hijacked: sparking manufactured outrage with all of its attended ... casualties (including the above mentioned girls).

My mention of his being a grandfather of one of the athletes was to rebute Noodle's counter-factual assumption. There was no intention to support his out-of-bounds behavior.

If we mirror how they act, if we lose the facts we lose the truth and that only double downs on the resulting pain.

That was the snek pit I was trying to walk around since it wasn't anything I was trying to address and I wanted to avoid the sparking part. I think that is what confused me because it sparked anyway. I thought I had caused it. Sorry for the confusion on my part.

Then laws are made to put in extreme limits that forbid everything, etc. Although in this case, the city doesn’t seem to want to continue down that line.

Imagine a giant Jesus, or firearm, or Trump statue. Would it be so hard to try and respect the people you live next to?

I have a neighbour who loves his car and washes it every chance he gets. Whatever, right? Except he has to blast his music while he’s doing it so everyone in the three surrounding buildings is forced to listen to his musical preferences for an hour or two.
